Book Description

18 Dec 2010
This guide shows you how to use lighting to photograph nude female models and create various moods and effects. From the plainspoken to the artistic, each lighting configuration is diagramed in painstaking detail. From indoor to outdoor, studio to location, you’ll learn what can be achieved and how to make it work for you. From just one light in a small room, to elaborate creative setups, everything is described. Learn the art and skill of using light and controlling shadows from the author of True Confessions of Nude Photography. If you read True Confessions and you wanting more, this follow-up book concentrates purely on lighting with updated images, text and diagrams. If you think that great photos require expensive lights, an enormous studio, and a team of assistants, this book will debunk that misconception. You may be surprised at how many ways you can shoot great nude photos you’ll be proud of without breaking the bank. And there’s plenty more you can accomplish if you do want to invest a few well placed dollars on some moderately priced equipment. This book doesn’t promise that learning is easy or quick – your results will be based on your level of effort, but it is easier and quicker with a guide. There are sections on equipment, lighting concepts, exercises, lighting problems, outdoor and studio lighting. The lighting configurations use softboxes, umbrellas, snoots, gels, booms, diffusers, parabolic reflectors, and a beauty dish. Topics include backlighting, isolation, shadow, water nudes, accent lighting, and fill light. You’ll see the difference between using a reflector or a strobe for outdoor fill. This guide contains quite a few notes about what pitfalls to avoid too. Practical tips show you ways to more easily achieve results. Do-it-yourself advice will help create lighting arrangements on a modest budget. Lights Camera Nude! includes eighteen lighting setups and over seventy example photos as well as a link to online bonus material exclusively for readers.

About the Author

A. K. Nicholas is an American photographer who has spent over twenty years recruiting and working with beautiful models. He comes from a family of artists and has traveled to more than three dozen countries in South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Orient, and India. His first nude photo shoot occurred as an art student, and quite unexpectedly. After asking a classmate if he could photograph her, she entered the studio and fully disrobed, assuming that he had meant a nude photo shoot. From the age of nineteen, thousands of Nicholas' photographs have sold through exhibits in commercial galleries, been licensed through stock photography agencies, appeared books, articles, advertisements, and other publications. Nicholas began teaching advanced photographic techniques while still in college, filling in for several weeks for an ill professor. He continued to teach photography after graduation. Nicholas has written books and articles, including how-to's for nude photography and pictorial books that explore and celebrate beauty. In his writings he draws upon an art degree, a Master's in business and experience as both a professional photographer and a freelance artist. You'll learn from his twenty years of successes (and even some mistakes) with hundreds of nude models. Use coupon code QGNNUCPE at checkout to save 25% and get this book for only $17.17

After purchasing A.K. Nicholas first book: The confessions of a nude photographer.
I was eager to get my hands on his follow up book. A guide to Lighting The Female nude.
The book takes a more in depth look at what is required and how to achieve stunning nude photographic results.
Where as his first book, The confessions of a nude photographer focused mainly on studio photography.
This book is defiantly a more comprehensive visual step by step guide leading the photographer on a journey from the basic onto the moderate and then on to the more challenging set ups. Each outlined with the kit required, the equipment settings and visual diagrams with a beautiful model to illustrate where and how to position your lighting equipment. The book breaks down the barriers, with full explanations on why a certain kit is used to achieve perfect results on location or out doors. Once applied in practice, a new photographer is able to understand in theory by means of visual examples and guided explanations what is required.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite Curves 25 Aug 2012
By loritatarsmith - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
"Exquisite Curves" starts with a stunning photo followed by another stunning photo, and so on. Whether the reader is a photographer or uses pen and ink, paints or any other medium for her / her craft, the tips and lessons here are indispensable.
The book has quite a few exercises to help the reader understand the importance of composition. None are formal, but all serve to show important aspects of making a photo a piece of art rather than a snapshot.
Explore the elements of composition, which ones have most impact, how and where to find and use them. What is the importance of curved lines? Learn the "language" of different types of lines.
Discover the Mach Effect and how to use it to your advantage. See how different shapes add different meaning and emphasis to your composition. Understand how to use them so your image is conveying what you want to the viewer.
Another element that can be so obvious as to be overlooked is the importance of color, and its accuracy. A photographer can spend some time during set up to minimize editing or spend countless hours afterward making everything look right. Learn the tools to use at the beginning in order to be more efficient with your time overall.
Light, weight and mass are discussed and demonstrated, any of which can be your best friend or worst enemy as elements of the composition of your photo. The author offers great tips to help overcome the less-than-perfect qualities of a model whether poor skin tone or short legs.
Once you have read "Exquisite Curves", you will want to experiment with the many parts of composition. You will be able to define various pathways and perspectives and convey different feelings with each pose within the composition.
See examples of what different types of lenses and focal points produce, and learn how to get those same results yourself.
There are loads of tips for digitally enhancing and processing the photos you take. Whether you want a vignette, want it monochrome, want to go abstract...you name it, it's in here.
Discover the difference between someone who takes pictures, a photographer and a true artist whose medium is photography.
The whole idea is to take the best pictures possible, improve them when necessary but ultimately, be yourself, let your style shine through it all. It is all about being your personal best and doing your personal best work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Instructional for Lighting 7 Feb 2011
By Michelle7 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Nichols has hit another home run here. Much like in his previous book, "True Confessions of Nude Photography", he presents what might be seen as a difficult subject and shows how simple things can be. The subject matter of this new book is lighting techniques for shooting nudes. He goes over general concepts at first, but then dives into explaining what the various lighting devices are and even provides what different lighting kits and equipment configurations can do for you. Studio and location settings are explained in a very-easy-to-understand manner. It's refreshing in that Nichols does not try to overwhelm the reader with too much information or impress them with his wealth of knowledge and experience. He just lays it out simply and concisely.

All the but the most advanced professionals will benefit from reading this book, and the best part is that it won't take that long before you're lighting your models like a pro.
