I've recently purchased this item which is leaving me a little disappointed as dose not keep my I phone 4s in charge when I use the GPS, actually the level of the battery dose not even stay stable but drain out while charging.

Although, when my device is in stand by I only get 4% of charge out of 30 min cycling.

However I've tried to use the GPS without connect the Iphone to the "light charger" and the battery drained out much quicker. That proves that the LIGHTCHARGER help the battery to run for longer time.

Despite the fact that the product itself left me a little disappointed ( as I was expecting something which would have generated more recharging power), I have decided to keep it as I can still use it to recharge small devices such as a USB light ect..

I have to say that if the price had been lower I would have been less disappointed.

LightCharge USB Dynamo Hub Charger 8 Nov. 2012
By Bicycle Barnes - Published on Amazon.com

I love this product. It charges all my USB devices when running during the daylight and acts as a switch for turning lights on or off. It will not charge and power the lights at the same time. I mounted on the handlebar near the stem and can charge a device concealed in a small top tube bag or handlebar bag. I also use it to charge my Bolt solar battery as a back up storage device to charge my phone or Garmin computer. Installation was simple. It would be ideal if you use an Iphone for maps or gps and want to keep it charged while using it.

It worked for a week 23 Jun. 2013

I naively thought since the product description is for hub dynamo I could just plug it into my dynamo hub. But it's not that simple. There are three wires with no connectors. The instructions show nicely how to hook the wires to a bottle dynamo. Although you need a high powered magnifying glass to see the diagram for hub wiring. And if you can figure it out you still need connectors. A European site actually shows 4 wiring options available. One of them for the son hub with connectors. Although I could find no one offering this option for sale. If you have some electrical wiring knowledge, access to connectors and shrink tubing this is a great product because it's simple, light weight and it works. Just hope it holds up long enough to get me through my next bike tour. Back from my bike tour and this is what I now have to say.
This product worked great at first. I was very excited. But after one week of use it died died.

Sustain your batteries 24 Aug. 2012
By T. Footdale - Published on Amazon.com
I've done a few 25 mile rides both playing music and running a GPS app on my iPhone 4s and my battery gained about 5-10% increase in power. I've used other dynamo chargers in the past that would handily charge a iPhone to full in about 2-3 hours, so when trying this I expected the same thing. Don't expect this to charge as quickly as plugging it into the wall, but this will definitely sustain your battery for your entire ride, with a small increase in power. I'll assume that it could charge a lot quicker if the device was powered down.

Very light package, simple install, and a nice toggle switch, which can route the power to the charger or a dynamo powered light.

Works as promised; good cost/performance 17 Aug. 2012
By David G. Litt - Published on Amazon.com
I have been using dynamo hub-based lighting during longer rides (Audax etc.) over the past year, and I was looking for a USB charger that I could power with the hub dynamo to recharge my Garmin Edge 800 GPS unit or iPhone during rides. The lightcharge is a nice solution, that does not cost an arm and a leg.

Installation was easy, for anyone who can manage installing a dynamo light.

The lightcharge is relatively small and light, and there is a lot of flexibility about where to locate it on the bike -- you just attach it with plastic ties. I ended up with mine attached on the downtube of the bike, just off of the headtube.

I rode the "Rocky Mountain 1200" in late July, which started with 24 hours of hard rain as we headed into the Canadian Rockies. The cover on the USB output port kept water out and the lightcharge in working order, though I did not dare to try to use it (or take my iPhone out of a sealed plastic bag) during the rain.

Unfortunately, the Garmin Edge 800 does not work well with a USB charger that does not include a battery and so cuts in and out as a bike starts and stops. So instead, I have been charging a small Li-Ion battery, which I can then use to charge my Garmin Edge.

With the iPhone 4S, the lightcharge works fine directly.

Charging is not as rapid as when the iPhone or a battery is connected to an AC adapter or a USB port on my PC (hence 4 stars instead of 5), but the lightcharge is good enough to make the iPhone a viable GPS device for use on longer rides.

The lightcharge works as promised.

I will never run out of mobile phone (or GPS) batteries again while cycling.

Don't Cheap Out, Buy a Better Brand 20 Jan. 2014

it did its job while it worked, but this brand/model lasted about two months before it died. i've been told by an EE that it got burned out after too many downhills because it likely couldn't handle the increased charge. don't know if that was the cause, but i do know that it stopped working promptly after a massive descent down rabbit ear pass into steamboat springs, CO.
