Format: Hardcover
This collection of poems is a superb and sparkling anthology of verses which are in fact Christmas card poems. This concept means that they are poems at Christmas rather than necessarily about Christmas. While, not surprisingly, many poems concentrate on the nativity, others cover the natural world, weather and time's passing, religious and secular celebrations at home and abroad, and historical and topical events.
The 80 poems include highlights such as Advent Calendar by Rowan Willaims, Christmas Circulars by Carole Satyamurti,Our Pear Tree by Lucy Newlyn, The Computer's Second Christmas Card by Edwin Morgan, Christmas Cards by Lotte Kramer and December 25th, 12 Noon by Alison Brackenbury.
This is an original idea for a collection of Christmas poetry and the various poets have trodden the familiar Christmas ground and come up with new ideas, images and incidents even though this is an area that has been flattened by familiarity.

This anthology is an ideal Christmas present for the poetry lover. The book in hardback looks good and the engravings on every page by John Lawrence are a beautiful accompaniment to the thoughtful collection of contemporary poets and authors journeying from Advent through to Epiphany. It is my favourite Christmas Anthology and I would really love to see a sequel.

Light unlocked has been a wonderful change from usual 'The Night before Christmas' for advent and especially christmas eve reading. Fantastic to have a new Christmas classic with some truely great poems by our best talents. Know this book will be pulled off my shelf every year around this time to share with others. Wonderful to be able to read some contemporary poetry to my son as well. Thank you Enitharmon.
