Questionnable... 22 Jan 2003
By Mr. J. R. F. Richards VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
The last of Silver RavenWolf's trilogy.
I bought it to complete my collection (see her other books; To Ride a Silver Broomstick, To Stir a Magick Cauldron), having read it briefly in shops.
The positive aspects of the book include the appendices, which contain most of the knowledge you would care to know. Also her support for "defusing that doubt-bomb" (actual quote, yes it sounds lame) and getting around mental blocks for when you want to perform magic but doubt your abilities and so muddy the water.

My main criticism (and the reason I only gave it 2 stars) is that it does not contain anything new of any use. OK, there's a small section on Ghostbusting, a very indirect and unclear section on mental fascinations, and a few other small areas such as unlocking psychic centres within you.

My advice is, buy her other books first. They give you plenty of grounding in the magical arts and contain all that you should ever need to know.
Of course, if you need that handfasting ritual (which by the way, I find very Christian in concept) or the Wiccaning festival, then go ahead and get it.

Basically, only buy it if you have the money. There are other, perhaps more useful books out there to help you complete your study.

This book was the biggest disappoint ot me out of the To... series. Some of Ravenwolf's first words are "I am a lineaged witch." What happened to the Ravenwolf that found a religion that worked for her, and wanted to share it with everyone? Or the woman who said that with dedication and a willingness to study, anyone could achieve what she had?

Her initiation into the Gardnerian Tradition is obvious in this book, as her stressing the importance of formal and informal rituals, palnetary hours, and the five fold kiss. In To Stir and To ride she doesn't stress the importance of formality.

All in all, this was a sad book in the To... series. She might have some good information, but it's not presented in the way she originally did. It seems like she is the all knowledgable person, and we are lucky to get scraps of information from her.

Speaking as a genuine traditional witch and one who knows what real traditional witchcraft is and is not simply trying to escape from the more fluffy, overtly goddessy aspects of much of the nonsense that is printed about wicca these days (and I am not a wiccan) I have to say that yet again the authour has published complete, utter nonsense.

Unfortunately I cannot seem to escape from people buying me her books as gifts. This happened when my mam bought me her New Generation Witchcraft books as xmas gifts. Ms $ilver Ravenfluffs books have been getting steadly worse. Whilst her New Generation books aren't terrible per say and are designed to be read in order this IS NOT and I really must stress this THIS IS NOT REAL witchcraft. This is basically pseudo, fluffy nonsense dressed up and paraded as witchcraft spelt throughout the entire text with a capital and unnessecary W and ahem magic with a k. I wonder why new age authours insist on adding the k as it is isn't needed. This text was terribly patronising and she really talks down to you as well. She is like I am Mama Silver and I'm here to save all you teenagers and you have to listen to only me or else. This book was obviously directed at a young audience and it shows. Readers do not need to be patronised like this or talked down to and witchcraft does not need to be dumbed down either. I find all these reviews on here spouting about real witchcraft hilarious as they obviously haven't got a clue what real witchcraft is. There is utter rubbish about psychic centres and the chakras in here. I have little to no interst in this topics as traditional craft doesn't focus on it. I actually laughed out loud at some of the suggestions and "real witches knowledge" the authour claims to possess in here. All I can say is that this book isn't about wicca and it most certainly is NOT about witchcraft either.

Please avoid this book like the plague. It is worthless like most of her other materail and you could spend your money on much smaller and better books. If you only buy one book this month try to find 13 Moons by Fiona Walker Craven. It is out of print but worth it's weight in gold. You will discover real witchcraft as opposed to nonsense about self help techniques and the wiccan goddess or pseudo wicca which is basically what this patronising book from Ravenfluff is about.
