Product Description

Product Description

Pranayama is a technique of yoga breathing that is designed to develop perfect physical health and a sound, harmonious mind. This book explains this technique and is designed for all those interested in meditation and mysticism. By the author of "Light on Yoga" and "Concise Light on Yoga". --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Back Cover

"The essence of his knowledge on asanas has already been presented in his other classic 'Light on Yoga'; now, his maturity and refinement in pranayama are conveyed in this new work. The programme is spread over 200 weeks, requiring 15-30 minutes daily. The reader is also provided with a 33-page section on glossary of terms and index. The 190 photographs in the book reiterate the meticulous care shown in the preparation. Photos illustrate the front, side, back, and top views of lyengar demonstrating the rights and wrongs and do's and don'ts. In summary, I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to all those interested in yogic breathing."
YOGA TODAY

"The techniques of Pranayama are difficult to acquire as there are few masters able to present them in a manner intelligible to the West – B.K.S. Iyengar is undoubtedly such a master. Practical instructions to develop perfect physical health and a sound, harmonious mind. A book for all who are interested in meditation and mysticism"
HEALTHY LIVING

"Excellent work for its understanding, comprehensive detail, and writing style. No library on Yoga will be complete without this volume. No practice of Yoga is complete without the mastery of Pranayama."

Very good 1 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I am a fan of Iyengar - in 'Light on Yoga' he has helped me understand more about getting into different asana and alignment etc.
This book is invaluable for those studying pranayama as it answers a lot of questions and gives a traditional slant whilst not being unattainable.
Iyengar gives his characteristic insight in this book as well as in 'Light on Yoga'.
Recommended.

The many descriptive photos (most of Iyengar in a loin cloth) are useful in helping to pin point exact position of hands and body for each of the breathing exercises. However, there aren't enough medical descriptions of techniques used. Not the greatest book on pranayama available, but still a useful aid especially for yoga instructors and students.
