We purchased 2 duvet sets for our sons, and are very happy with the quality. They also wash really well.

As other reviewers have commented, the pillow case is not gingham. What I didn't realise was that the gingham side is a nice crisp blue and white colour and the reverse (and pillow) is a different and not nice mucky blue colour. It's a cotton poly blend so not a very nice feel but what you'd imagine for the money. ;-)
We recently wanted to transition our two year old from Grobags (Grobag Peek A Zoo 1.0 Tog Baby Sleeping Bag (6 to 18 Months)) to a duvet and had a look around Amazon for options.
It is a matter of personal taste of course, but I am loathe to start buying merchandising (e.g. Character World Chuggington Traintastic Panel Duvet Set, Single) until he is actively asking for it. He loves Chuggington but I don't think he needs everything he owns to be covered in Wilson, Brewster, Koko et al.
I therefore went for this cover. It is lovely quality, washes really well and allows him to regulate his own temperature by snuggling down under it or removing it. For a few days in advance we started playing "boo" on our bed with him and showing him how you could snuggle under our duvet so when his own turned up he was delighted.
Definitely a good choice if you want something plain and elegant...I suspect his next duvet cover might be less so if he has an influence but, then again, maybe starting this way will give him an eye for interior design ;-)
