I first bought this book 6 years ago when my eldest daughter was a year old. It immediately became a favourite of hers. When her sister came along, it was enjoyed just as much. Since then, I have bought this book for my 2 nieces, a nephew and several friends children, and in each case, it has become favourites of theirs also. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. I would tell anyone not to hesitate in buying it.

By Dr. H. Payne TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This is larger than most of Rod Campbell's other toddler books. It is A4 format and the pages are strong paper/thin card rather than the substantial board in most of his other books. For this reason alone it is not ideal for the youngest of children (I was happy for my children to have board books from about 9 months old). My 19 month old daughter is currently enjoying this book without causing major damage to it.

The content of the book isn't bad at all. There is a fair variety of well-known nursery rhymes, odd snatches of Campbell's own rhyming couplets, hide and seek games with the animals and simple descriptions of the pictures and their flaps. There are domestic, farm, and more exotic animals. Animal houses and their young are included as are opportunities for counting which bring an added educational element to the book.

The only drawback with this book is that there is no narrative development or story as such. It's great as a point of interest and conversation with your child, but we do like stories in our house!

Overall it's great as another book on the shelf, but not one of the best books you're likely to ever read to your child.

A good buy 28 May 2010
Format:Paperback
We have bought many (many) books for my daughter. This one is among the few that is still among her favourites as she is growing up; only problem is that the flaps are not surving her onslaught on the pages, but that's not the book's fault!
The fact that differnt animals are hidden under the panels, enable you to play games such 'where is the ...' which encourages the child to memorise different locations and recognise animal names. This book also goes with us when we travel to keep her entertained (she is 2 now).
So in conclusion: serves all purposes and can be used to play games - good buy
