I came across this book through my studies, amongst a selection of books on the same theme. Of them all, this is my favourite. Not only did this book support my academic studies, it has also become a personal favourite for browsing. As the title suggests it discusses human development from conception to death.

Helen Bee has been writing for over 70 years now. Her writing reflects her knowledge, understanding and the skills she has in expressing complex issues. She writes with humour and makes the content comfortable to read. The use of real life stories enables the reader to enjoy and easily understand a broad and complicated subject.

Having used this book for my own work, I now strongly reccommend it to students of child development, many of whom have expressed their gratefulness at finding such a valuable text that they could work with.

This book for myself has gone beyond the boundaries of studying. It is not unusual to find myself reading snippets for pleasure and I have recently refered to this book to help me understand a 'phase' that a family member has been having!

This book will be used for a long time.

I bought this book for my child care module and I find it to be very informative and easy to understand. However, it should be stated that this book is written and illustrated by American professionals and I have been aware that for my own studies I have been careful in essays when using references from the book. However, the overall content is good and I do like this book very much. It has been a useful addition to my now growing 'social work library'. It is not quite so relevant to those looking for texts solely to do with social work but is very useful for advising about overall birth-death human existence.

Detaile & informative 19 Oct 2009
By M.D.
Format:Paperback
A detailed & interesting study on all aspects of life from newborn to the aged. The only disadvantage is that a table is needed to lay it on to read - it is very heavy & unwieldy to handle - should be in hardback. Note it is an American publication so all public health references are US & not UK directed
