Product Description

The Lifemax High Vision Reading Light is specially designed using near daylight bulbs to give the perfect light for reading, hobbies, study or close work. The floodlight effect bulb delivers a constant light to cover a maximum working area. This can help to relieve eyestrain and headaches, allowing you to read and study for longer.

The long life replaceable tube bulb has a reduced power consumption to last up to 8000 hours and offers the best colour reproduction, making this lamp ideal for jigsaws, close work and glare free reading. The flexible arm easily adjusts the angle to ensure the light always shines from the right height and from the right direction for optimum use.

Practical styling in a choice of beige or black, this light is available in a floor or desk lamp option, using the same type of bulb. The Lifemax High Vision Reading Light is suitable for all and especially helpful for the elderly or those with limited vision that require a brighter light.

Both floor and table versions of the Lifemax High Vision Reading Light are mains powered with a cord length of 170cm. The floor version comes with easy to follow assembly instructions and the table version is ready to use straight from the box.

I am very pleased with the brightness of this lamp - it's perfect for craft and reading.
Here is some information not included in the description: Height is approx. 138cm; power cord is approx. 170cm. The lamp is 27W type PL27QBX4PC (Lifemax code 251A). Also, the material is described as plastic/glass, but the base is definitely metal and the pole seemed to be metal too, so it's not as flimsy as you might think from the description (and is heavy enough to be stable). I found it easy to assemble - some Vaseline on the threads helped - and you just need a Phillips screwdriver for one screw in the base.

A stable and well made product at a suitable height for using in an easy chair. Does not need the suggested spare bulb as the included one is rated at 8000 hours.

My husband bought this lamp when the one I was after was not available. No regrets at all. The light is excellent - superb for any close needlework day and night. The lamp angle is fully adjustable, so can be moved for closer work, or extended into a complete vertical position so it can take minimal space when not in use. It's a great lamp. Excellent value for money.

I bought this item for my husband who is delighted with it. He always found difficulty reading with just a main light or
a table lamp. This lamp positioned behind his chair, gives clear daylight and reading has become a joy again for him.
The lamp came folded, but was very easy to erect- my only comment is that it could have been just slightly taller.

I decided to buy this one (black colour) instead of the white I found with other sellers (white was more expensive as well). Arrived promptly, packaging was good, all the tools you need to assemble it were in the package (NONE, you need nothing! ;-)). Some other reviewers (on the white model) found assembly difficult, I found it extremely easy. You DO have to pay attention to instruction steps, DO follow the numbered steps, be slightly careful with tucking the extra cable inside the tube and it's so easy. I've only recently bought the lamp so can't comment on the long-term effect on my reading but so far it's made a pleasant difference and I can read for longer without my eyes getting as tired.

Bought this lamp for studying in the evening - needed to illuminate a large desk area (several textbooks open at once).
Does the job: lovely pure white light, very bright, and very respectful of colours (helpful as I study biology and spend a lot of time looking at photos, scans, graphs etc.).
It might not be marketed as a help against winter depression, but just seeing the room so bright lift my spirits!
However, I only gave 4 stars to the product as the assembly was a bit tricky. I had difficulty working out what was the 'black rubber' thing I was to remove. It is the ring on the base. I also removed black rubber sheaths which were protecting the wires (themselves in red and white rubber sheaths) and transparent plastic loops which were at the extremities of the wires, near the 'plug in' bits. I hope I was right in doing so! The 'push the wires inside the tube' was a Mission Impossible: I had about 1/3 of a foot of extra wire, so ended up having to fold it before stuffing it inside the tube. I hope that isn't going to cause problems either :(
I bought a similar-looking lamp (lower wattage) from Ikea 4 years ago and it is much easier to assemble (and take apart: that lamp has gone through 7 housemoves since I first bought it and each time I had to take it apart, put it back into the original box, and unpack it and reassemble it on arrival). I'm not looking forward to moving house with my Lifemax lamp, I think it might end up travelling wrapped up in bubble wrap, or maybe in a rolled up rug!

I should have invested in one of these reading lights years ago. The natural light effect is quite wonderful. Reading is easier at any time, even during the daytime.

We purchased this lamp as my husband has a cataract in both eyes. He is now able to read without too much strain. All the other lights now seem very dull! We are so pleased that we purchased another one for me.
The first lamp took a little while to put together as the instructions could have been clearer but the other one was fine as we knew the way to tackle it.
We purchased 2 of these lamps and were very pleased with them as you can see above. Towards the beginning of December one of them failed. I sent for replacement bulbs, thinking that bulb failure must be the cause but still it didn't work. A qualified electrician had a look at it and thought it must be the transformer in the base. (He didn't take the transformer out but did remove the base plate). I emailed Lifemax and they suggested that I returned the whole thing. As by then my husband had died I explained this and suggested that they either sent me a new lamp or a new transformer as I had no means of packing the whole lamp and they didn't suggest a carrier.
Last night, 18/1/2012 the other lamp failed so I have emailed them again. With this in mind I would like to downgrade to 1 star instead of 5 stars.
