This review is from the same clock I bought from another Amazon seller. No reflection on FLS.

I bought this because I wanted the light and sounds to be an easier wake up than my usual alarm. Oh dear. Well, the concept is good and this clock has a lot of apparently good features, but the implementation is badly flawed.

The light never claims to be a `SAD' light and it isn't, fair enough. But it is not bright enough ever to wake me of its own accord. That said, I like waking up to find it on and it is not too bright to hurt my eyes.

My biggest issue is the alarm. Bizarrely the manufacturers decided each sounding of the alarm should last only ONE MINUTE! So I get just one minute of a tweeting bird (or alternative), after which there is silence. The light remains on. Five minutes later I get one more minute of a tweeting bird, after which both sound and light go out. Then five whole minutes later, the light reappears and another minute of sound occurs before stopping again. After that, silence and darkness - and yep, I'm fast asleep.

I don't call that an alarm. If Lifemax want to make this product work, then the alarm should come on and remain on until I decide to switch it off. The various sounds are OK and loud enough, but the short repeat cycle is noticeable. I have a kind of photographic memory for music and sound, and it irritates me to hear the repeat of the very short recording cycle.

The build quality is lightweight for the price (I paid @£25), but I have no particular concerns over this. It looks OK on the table and the display lights up with the light, which is a nice point.

So, I believe it fails at being an alarm clock. I am sure it would succeed if:

I bought this Lifemax Rise and Shine Alarm Clock mainly for the white noise and nature sounds to help me sleep. It seemed great value for the money and overall I think you get quite a lot for it though it has to be said it is quite a basic model. The volume levels are a bit disappointing, I would have liked it to have gone a little quieter than the lowest level goes as it still seems quite intrusive when on the bedside table, however the choice of sounds is impressive, there are three levels of lighting which are sufficient and for under £25 its a good bit of kit. It doesn't have the quality or performance of a Lumie Light but to be fair it doesn't have the same expensive price tag either.

It has a small price tag and a small footprint, but I found one major flaw: The time display is not back-lit. Yes, if you want to see what time it is in the middle of the night there is a button you can push, but this also turns on the wake-up light. This is a feature that does not promote sleeping compatibility with one's partner.

Fair enough, it doesn't claim to treat SAD, but the way the clock is marketed suggests that it is a cheaper version of higher priced options that do. The light is really just for show- it isn't nearly strong enough to wake you up (or at least not me anyway). As for the sounds, well, hearing bird song has been much nicer than bleeping - though, I do feel that a gradual increase in sound would have been nicer and also, the sound recording of the bird song (which seems the best sound) is, well, very obviously recorded, is the best way I can think of putting it- you can hear the recording switch on/off between each section of birdsong. I keep wanting to say "for the price" what did I expect, but as I haven't experienced the higher priced clocks, it doesn't seem an objective comparison. In addition to the obvious (time) the display has a good array of information- date/day/month/year and temperature. Basically, if you want an alarm clock with nature sounds, I think this is OK, but I wouldn't look at it as a viable alternative to clocks that claim to actually help with SAD.

This was bought for me as a gift by a friend, who very kindly wanted to help me out when I started to show signs of SAD. I used it for a few days, but neither the lights in it nor the sounds were bright/loud enough to wake me up at all, so it was a good thing I set the alarm on my phone as a precaution on the first day.

If you want an effective sunrise alarm clock, I would suggest that you need to be prepared to pay at least £50 for a mains-operated one.

Although i thought a bit pricey for what it was, my daughter likes this product and the nice way it wakes you up.Battery life is good also. Only four stars because of price.

this must be the worst alarm clock ever- it is far too complicated to use, the instructions are terrible, it isn't loud enough to wake me up, and the light is awful- my £10 avon one was much better! after three months it has packed up altogether- do not buy!
