My partner and I lost 18lbs between us from doing the 7 day Life Detox. The book is very straight forward and easy to follow.

The week didn't feel like hardship one bit - the recipes were delicious and we took time for saunas, epsom salt baths, colonics, we walked, rebounded - it felt like a week of being indulgent!

Just two days in and I felt my body saying thank you! I felt more and more energetic throughout the week and couldn't believe that I had the focus to continue with two extra juice days.

Doing the Life Detox has given me a great head start to develop new eating habits and helped to clear out some old ways of thinking.

And, what great timing for us, that Amanda and Sandy's new book has just come out. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a detox clear out. I'd also recommended purchasing Amanda's prepared supplement box from Nutrigold (listed in the book). Physillum husk and bentonite clay - blurrrrrgh! Good luck :o)))

This is an excellent book. I was into detoxing and raw foods, along with mental/emotional work, in the 1970s and 1980s, and have at long last returned to this very energizing lifestyle with the help of Amanda and Sandy's book. I didn't want to go through the rigours of juice fasting without working with a professional, and my husband is new to this concept, so didn't want to freak him out! This is an effective and easy alternative. We have used the program once, and feel much, much better than before, with a few unwanted pounds lost in the bargain. The recipes are excellent - they are extremely health-promoting, and delicious enough to serve to guests. You've GOT to try the carrot/butternut squash soup!!! My only regret is that they haven't produced a BIG cookbook with a lot more recipes just like these!!!! Both aspects of the book, the nutritional and the mental/emotional, are top-notch.

Having looked into doing a detox retreat and found I couldnt make it work around family life I bought this book with a view to trying it at home. This book really gave me the confidence I lacked to detox at home. Amanda Hamilton deserves her title as Queen of Detox. This book is a cut above the others as it gives you lots more info on why to do something - the benefits and what's in things. It gives you principles that you can use to make this a life choice. Even though I couldnt find some of the extras I still did it without for a few days with no side effects. Really varied and tasty recipes. Have done it for both me and my husband and he hasnt once complained about the food being boring or too healthy. Only thing I would have liked is a list of good foods so I can create my own recipes rather than just sticking to these. I tried switching an ingredient one night and felt terrible the next morning.

Overall highly recommended

I have just finished the 7 day detox and is highly recommended to anyone wanting to detox. The recipes are delicious and extremely varied, not to mention quick and easy. I was stuck in rut with food for my family and myself and I now have a new found energy and will incorporate the recipes into every day cooking. The mind detox is also a must and has helped immensly with my total body cleanse. Take 7 days just for you.

Excellent book.

After treating myself to a few days in a Health farm I was eager to give my body the ultimate in nutrition and selected this book on the good reviews. I'm now on my seventh day of a 7 day detox and enjoy it so much I am looking to extend this eating plan for another 5 days. The book covers many aspects, physical exercise, spirtual, emotional, nutrition etc. I stuck to it probably about 95% (I haven't got a juicer) and lost 4 pounds in the first three days. Unlike Carol Vorderman's book I found these recipes really enjoyable, the thai green fish curry and fish with roasted veg, goats cheese salad and soups were delicious. I surprisingly only craved other food when I was in the supermarket and never felt hungry, even though I was relatively carb free,

There is a fair amount of preparation and fresh food buying but I doubled up on some of the meals to save some time. On average the evening meals were about 30 minutes and lunches about the same. I took a day off work mid week to try and get ahead of the game and to tick off some items of my detox list (this a list you make early in the week and it contains things you've wanted to do for a long time with the aim that you tick 1-3 off every day).

If you wanted to do everything the book suggests then I don't think you can work as well, but the diet plan is easily achievable. If I was scoring the diet alone I would give it a 4.90 star (I didn't like the quinoa).

I did buy the supplements (about £40) and found the clay revolting but apart from feeling like I was rattling (on 13 tablets a day) it was fine.

My only other recommendation is to start the detox on a Saturday or Sunday as you've then got the following weekend to look forward to. A weekend without wine was difficult to finish with!

If in doubt do it, do it, do it, my looks and energy have improved massively. I'm planning to do this again and to use the recipes in my own eating plan.

I did this detox with my husband a few weeks ago and delayed writing a review to see what happened to all that weight!

In short, my husband lost 8.6lb, and I lost 9.4lb and a few weeks later i'm only 1 lb heavier so I'm pretty chuffed.

However, the detox itself we found pretty hard work. Some of the recipes are ok, but some it seemed that there was a typo in the book. One of the recommended smoothies involved a peeled lemon, peeled orange, and 2 apples amongst other things. Trust me - that does not blend into a smoothie. It was like drinking sick and it went in the bin. (also, the book didn't mention cutting your citrus fruits up to remove pips which surely is essential?) One of the soups made way too much too, was very watery and nothing like the picture. However, apply a bit of common sense and you'll be fine.

We did use the psyllium husks too. If I can leave you with any advice - BUY THE TABLETS! I didn't realise that this stuff swelled up pretty much as soon as it hits fluid - urgh, it turns water into wallpaper paste (an experiment to see what it did). it makes your smoothie pretty horrible so if you can pay a few extra pounds, get tablets, i can't see why they don't recommend them.

Physically we felt fine. had 3 days of horrendous headaches, then felt pretty smashing towards the end of the week. And not once were we running to the toilet - that didn't happen at all. The juice fast day was very hard work - my husband I'm sure would have knocked his granny over for a chinese take away. But we did persevere and we both definitely felt it was worth it at the end. My husband has gained a few lb back but he has been weight training a lot since.

All in all, recommended, but I think you could cut a few corners. We dumped the smoothies on day 4 and just bought organic fresh juice. Also, look out some rye bread - much nicer than the alternatives of rice cakes or oat cakes!!
