Product Description

Product Description

This is the very first book from Nick Spalding, the best selling author of the smash hit romantic comedy Love... From Both Sides and its sequels Love...And Sleepless Nights & Love... Under Different Skies.

Nick Spalding tried to write a book in 24 hours. Turns out that's impossible... it took 30!

Life... With No Breaks is a unique, hilarious and heartfelt look at the modern world we live in, told by a master story-teller with much to say - and only a weekend to say it in.

You'll laugh out loud reading Nick's odyssey of non-stop writing in a collection of anecdotes, asides and stories (admittedly featuring more fabrication and embellishment than a politician's expenses claim) - all dredged up from an over-stimulated brain functioning on caffeine, nicotine and the occasional chocolate biscuit.

The book is a conversation with you, and with Nick you'll venture into the thorny topics of love, life, sex, horribly timed bowel movements and a deathly fear of sponges (among many other things).

After you've read Life... With No Breaks, you may never look at the world the same way again!

Reviews for Nick Spalding & Life... With No Breaks:

About the Author

Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can't seem to write anything serious. He's worked in the communications industry his entire life, mainly in media and marketing. As talking rubbish for a living can get tiresome (for anyone other than a politician), he thought he'd have a crack at writing comedy fiction - with an agreeable level of success so far, it has to be said. Nick lives in the South of England with his fiancée. He is approaching his forties with the kind of dread usually associated with a trip to the gallows, suffers from the occasional bout of insomnia, and still thinks Batman is cool.

More About the Author

Nick Spalding is an author who, try as he might, can't seem to write anything serious.

Before becoming a full-time author, he worked in the communications industry, mainly in media and marketing. As talking rubbish for a living can get tiresome (for anyone other than a politician), he thought he'd have a crack at writing comedy fiction - with a very agreeable level of success so far, it has to be said. Nick has now sold over half a million books, and still can't quite believe his luck.

Nick lives in the South of England with his fiancée. He recently had to turn 40 - and is rather annoyed at the universe because it gave him no choice in the matter; he also suffers from the occasional bout of insomnia, is addicted to Thai food, and still thinks Batman is cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Sponge sorry Star Book 19 April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I decided to read this book whilst feeling down. This was one of the best ideas ever. Totally loved the book. Nick made me feel as if I was actually sitting on that chair in his house stuffing my face with his cookies and coffee. To say it made me laugh was an understatement. This is a book I will read again and again and possibly again. Can't wait for the next one. Thanks for cheering me up Nick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and hilarious! 28 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
Life with no breaks has to be one of the funniest books I've read in years. From start to finish I found myself laughing out loud at Spaldings's escapades, stange phobias (sponges!) and observations. There were so many entertaining stories, too many to list here, although the embarrasing university story is worth a mention.
I loved how the book was written in one sitting; it made me feel part of the author's journey through his thoughts and reminiscences. And I felt almost priviledged to be included in some of the more personal and private confessions. I had attempted to read this all in one go as a nod to Spalding's mammoth writing session - but I didn't have his stamina (or coffee!).
A brilliant, hilarious book, well worth a read. Spalding has a real talent for drawing you in and leaving you wanting more. I shall definately be reading more by this fantastic author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable 30 hours with Nick Spalding 28 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I decided to read this book after watching a documentary about Amazon. It highlighted Nick's amazing sales of his first book. I thought I would check this out for myself. What's even more remarkable is how quickly he wrote it. Not months or even weeks, but in hours. I can appreciate what an achievement this is. I've just taken a year and a half to write my first book. He puts me to shame. Even more frustating is how good it is.

It's a unique book. Nick makes you feel like you are actually sitting there with him. He's an excellent host, keeps you well fed and watered. His tales are both amusing and serious. He doesn't pull any punches, tells it how it is. You might not agree with all his views, but you've got to respect his honesty.

It's a funny read, but also makes some salient points. Time is a constant reminder to him. He has a deadline to meet. We are all dictated by our timepieces, which is the point he is making. Time never changes, but what you do with it does. Take the time to read this book and you'll emerge with a different outlook. He's proved you can do more than you think with the time you have. He's certainly inspired me to write my next book a lot quicker. It won't be completed in a few hours, but I will finish it in months rather than years.

I enjoyed the company of Nick and so will you. It's time well spent. An excellent summer read. Treat yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth a read! 6 Mar 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Curiosity got the better of me about this book - written over a couple of days the author invites you into his house and offers you cookies and coffee. This book reminded me of many a pleasant evening I've spent with friends in the front room reminiscing over a bottle of wine on adolescence, mistakes made, disastrous relationships, bad decisions, regrets and impulse purchases!! As I sat on the bus reading this there were moments where I felt Nick was sitting next to me and including me in his late night thoughts, early morning philosophies and future wishes. This is not an earth shattering piece of writing, a piece of writing that makes you think about why we're all here and where we're going - this is a piece of cosy writing that people of a certain age connect with, smile with and I hope one day I bump into Nick in a bar and can buy him a pint and thank him for letting me share a couple of days with him and his coffee and cookies - please Nick, keep windows open though when smoking.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boredom... With No Breaks 27 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a reason people don't write books like this. It was just a man waffling on about nothing. For half of the book he is just talking about how he is writing the book.
I would have been more mentally stimulated if I just sat on my own in a dark room and thought about wasps.
At one point while reading this book, I got distracted by an empty crisp packet next to me. I found myself reading the ingredients list and being far more gripped. At this point I realised I was procrastinating reading the book, and it dawned on me that as no-one was forcing me to read it, I could just stop. And stop I did. The relief was immense. I spent the rest of the day in front on the mirror watching my hair grow.
You have just had a more entertaining literary experience in reading my review than you will from reading this book. And my review is poorly written. If you're still thinking of getting this book, I encourage you to read a few more reviews, and I assure you, however bored you are reading them, multiply that by 50 and you may come close to the experience of 'Life... With No Breaks'

1.0 out of 5 stars Middle aged man's cynical view of life 1 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Middle aged man writing inanely about his view of life, coloured with stories from his own life. Reels you in early on with the one "laugh out loud" story from his student days - but from there on in it's downhill. Think Jack Dee without being amusing. (Jack Dee I like!) "Pearls of wisdom" like advice to take one day off every 3 months pretending to be sick and to do only what you absolutely have to at work. Got 40% of the way through and packed it in.

Readable with an interesting and personal style of reflection and anecdotes on life. Strange to imagine how anyone could find a funeral wildly amusing but Spalding does.
