Product Description

Product Description

This is an account of everyday life in ancient Egypt, as seen through the eyes of a real person, Vizier Rekhmire, whose tomb still exists. It takes the reader on a fascinating tour exploring Egyptian history, the City of the Dead, Thebes and the Valley of the Kings, and the pyramids. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

About the Author

Leonard Cottrell's passionate interest in archaeology began when he was a boy of twelve and took him on extensive travels. From 1942 to 1959 he was on the staff of the BBC as a war correspondent, documentary writer and drama producer. The first of his famous archaeological books. The Lost Pharaohs was published in 1949 and his other books include The Bull of Minos (also available in Sutton History). --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

As already reported the book has a number of references within the script to pictures/photographs elsewhere in the book none of which exist. e.g. the last phrase of the first paragraph on p.30 says "; it is reproduced opposite p.32." and it isn't. Furthermore the first page of Chapter XIII is in fact the first page of Chapter XIV which is itself repeated where it should be at p.185. Hence the three star rating rather than a five star which it otherwise deserves.

Review. 23 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
A fascinating insight to the subject, by a knowledgable author passionate about the subject. The author is able to pass on the interest and passion, and is much more interesting way of learning about the subject, than you'd get at school.
