Book Description

1 July 1993 Kings & Queens
George V stood for order and tradition in an age of tumultuous change. Grandson of Queen Victoria, he was pragmatic and forthright but also a man of sensibility. This study shows how the King's strong sense of duty, married with warm humanity, won the affection of his people at home and overseas. Denis Judd is also author of "The Crimean War", "The House of Windsor" and "Prince Philip".

I'd remembered reading this in our local public library some years ago & thought I'd like to read it again,I was not disappointed as the photographs & information is as good as I remembered. The book itself is in quite good condition considering its age & the reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A series worth collecting. 5 Aug 2014

This series of the Kings and Queens of England should be sold (or purchased) as a set, this is the third one that I have and they are a relaxing and enjoyable read.
Mr. Judd is an excellent writer and the photos help support the story.
After Edward VII, this monarch must have seemed like a genius, but the one thing that I have learned in an extensive reading of the Kings and Queens of England is that they all had their place in the building of that great Country. Sometimes, I don't know how they managed, but they certainly did.
My only complaints about the authors of these biographies, and it certainly applies more to the early monarchs then the later, is the lack of period maps and their assumption that I understand French or Latin.
