If you do not yet own this album, it is essential that you run out and buy it immediately! "Photographs and Memories" is considered by Croce fanatics to be one of his finest collections of works. If you think you get Jim Croce's best songs on Greatest Hits albums, you are truly missing out on some of the best of the best. Buy this album, and you will see what I mean. You just cannot go wrong with Jim Croce! Happy listening!

Jim Croce must have been having, or remembering, a bad time for romance when he recorded Life And Times. This wonderful album has the same mix of ballads and chuggers as his others.
But Jim, in rare form. seems downright pissed. "Some women, they are liars, and some ain't got no sense, but a women like you ought to be ashamed of the things that you do to men." Jesus, what did this shew do to our poor hero.
Imagine getting a scolding like that--man or women. Next time my girlfriend calls, just to be safe, I'll let it ring.
Maybe Jim's shew was the Roller Derby Queen, who skated "round and round down in the arena." Was she, "the meanest hunk of women anybody ever seen," the one that did our usually easy going song smith so wrong?
I don;t know, but most if not all of Life And Times is full of dark undertones. Even the AM hit, "Bad Bad Leroy Brown." is about the dangers of being a tough guy, getting too big for your boots and damn near if not actually getting yourself killed. What was going on during those 1972 Croce tours?
There are lighter tracks, but nothing near the celebration of I Got A Name.; Not one line like "I know I can share it if you want me to. If you're goin' my way, I'll go there too."
But Life And Times is brilliant. If you think Jim Croce was just a singles artist, check out I Got A Name, and then play this. Croce's ability to create a consistent mood, an album, is greater than you think
On second thought, play I Got A Name after Life And Times. You may need cheering up.

I was very happy and surprised to find this recording available on CD. The sound quality has different characteristics than what comes across on the record but still excellent.
