Product Description

Synopsis

Lord David Sutch has enjoyed the unstinting support of the silent majority since the early 1960s. Growing up in Kilburn, North London, he took his inspiration from Winston Churchill, Wing Commander Bill Boakes and Bill Haley. He first stood for Parliament in 1963 in John Profumo's ex-constituency and created the popular Monster Raving Loony Party. Since then he has never looked back. Lord Sutch's amanuensis and campaign manager is Peter Chippindale, co-author of "Disaster! the Rise and Fall of News on Sunday" and "Stick it up Your Punter".

Insane, mad, funny, and LOONY! 3 Dec 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
SCREAMING LORD DAVID SUTCH is the leader of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party (OMRLP), a British organisation designed to lighten up politics. In his (ghost-written) autobiography, he tells his story from his early days as a rock-singer to entering politics and standing at his first election, to his later successes up to 1992, the books' publication date. Looking a little long in the tooth now, while we wait for a new edition this still provides a hilarious introduction to his barmy world and his policies. Try out this: he believes, if elected Prime Minister, he would:

* tow Britain 200 miles south where it's warmer * go onto metric time (10 hours per day) * harness the power of cremated bodies as renewable energy source, while saving graveyard space.

If this appeals to you, read on; if not, then you probably won't enjoy it. There's no real gossip about his life; he deals with his two marriages in half a page, but watch as he brazenly claims the credit for just about every major political event in recent British history, such as:

* the downfall of Harold MacMillan * the downfall of Margaret Thatcher * the downfall of John Major

and just about everything in between. Great fun, as long as you don't believe everything you read.

Disappointing 4 Feb 2011
By Les carbonnades flamandes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Very little of Lord Sutch, and almost certainly nothing in his own words. 95% of this books is a semi-humorous (only semi) review of the Loony Party's expeditions into British parliamentary elections. Lots of groan-making puns. Although it pretends to be "I", Sutch, writing,it's not. I dutifully finished it, but ----. Admirers of Screaming Lord Sutch, whose band nurtured as many rock-stars-to-be as the similarly productive Long John Baldry, will be disappointed. I believe this book was withdrawn by the British publisher soon after release.

There is available a genuine biography by a close long-time friend of Sutch, however.
