Book Description

19 Mar 2009
Gordon Spice's life and his 23-year professional driving career includes politically incorrect, wickedly witty recollections of the sixties and seventies motor racing scene. An amusing raconteur, Spice relates considerable personal motorsport and business achievements. These include creating a high-street car-accessory empire, a race-car construction company and floating his own company on the UK Stock Exchange. Meanwhile, Gordon gathered international and national motor racing championships, participating in 24-hour races 20 times. This is a fascinating and humorous read, with the emphasis on entertainment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spicy ? The jury is still out. 29 July 2009
A good read, but Gordon Spice's life and achievements deserve better.
Interesting as far as it goes, and it's true to say that there are a few extremely honest insights into his businesses, and personality ... but very little detailed stuff about the actual cars he raced and built, and virtually nothing about how he developed them.

You should have this book on the shelf simply because the man did do so much (winning) and was such a key player.

But I for one, would look forward to a companion volume..."Gordon Spice, the cars, the driver, the opposition", topics which are only lightly sprinkled through this volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining and informative book 23 July 2009

Life of Spice: The Autobiography of Gordon Spice
If you are into Motor Racing you'll love the stats, if you're into running a business you'll relate to the highs and lows, the risks, challenges, and the buzz.
If you love to be refreshed by straight talking and sick of this "PC" lark we're made to abide by then this is the book for you.
And if like me you used to work for Gordon in his Cash 'n' Carry then you'll know why it was such a great place to work (before it all went pear shaped by those in the city wanting the bucks).
Loved the book as could relate to the people, the places and humour.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A "PROPER" STORY 11 April 2009
There are hundreds of motor-racing books about. Many are of the `coffee table' variety and about F1. A lot of them get massive advertising back-up with reviews but they are all a bit superficial with little of the personal detail that interests us all.
"Life of Spice" is actually a really good story. It's about a chap called Gordon Spice and what has happened to him during his life as an entrepreneur and a racing driver.
What makes this book so readable is that Gordon Spice arrives at many situations during his career that we can all identify with: especially the lows! Maybe we haven't experienced the motoring and business successes, but the book goes a long way to make it feel as if we'd been there.
If you are interested in what makes people tick, then you will really enjoy this book.
