We're coming to Britain to walk the Coast to Coast next year and are looking for as much help as possible. This book was recommended to us and we found it enthralling. We certainly know what to expect now, particularly as we've adapted our proposed route around the one Matt took. We think Wainwright would approve. Roll on next year.

Originally I bought it for my brother for Christmas (as he's planning on doing the coast to coast next year) however when it arrived I read it from cover to cover. I don't go in for all this endurance stuff but found this tale highly engrossing. Well done Matt and his merry band. What's next?

Have just reordered a second new one for Christmas present!

What a marvellous and inspirational journal. If anyone is preparing for a long distance event reading this journal should be part of your preparation. If you weren't thinking of doing a long distance event, read this and you probably will (that'd now be me). I felt like I was part of the team as I experienced the highs and lows along with Matt and. I'm now waiting to find out about the follow up adventure!

Having planned entirely on my own to run the Wainwright course for charity without even knowing about this book, I was happy to come across it on an ultra running website. Thanks to Amazon's next-day gratification, I began reading and found not only an entertaining read, but a wealth of experience specifically related to my own plans. When I got to the part about training, I Googled Mad Dog and immediately found his training site. Sent an email, and within minutes I was chatting not only with Mad Dog, but the author as well. I'm now training with Mad Dog to help me achieve my objective and Matt has also been a great source of help. What an amazing world we live in. I have found the book extremely helpful as a runner, but highly recommend it to anyone as a great read about real people doing something extraordinary. Just buy it now and enjoy. Sorry, you won't find my copy in the used section.

This is a great book explaining the physical preparation, logistics and most importantly the cameraderie involved in a personal endurance adventure. Matt Beardshall wonderfully captures the banter, the highs and the lows in a way that appeals to both runners and non runners. He has a lovely conversational style of writing (reminiscent of the uber-athlete Dean Karnazes) and I for one hope he considers another silly adventure we can all read about.

I am the guy who ran this with Matt!! I can honestly say that this book is a great read. I could not put it down and read the whole thing in one go which I have never done before.

Having taken part in the challenge this book is a great reminder for me but Matt has done a great job in giving an account of what we all went through with all the trials and tribulations!

I think this book would appeal to anyone interested in the coast to coast route, anyone thinking of taking up a challenge or anyone who wants to be inspired.

Im not sure what is planned for 2008 but i'm looking forward to it and I hope that Matt puts pen to paper once again... Vin

If you don't think you have enough time to train for a half marathon, marathon, seven days of fell marathons (!!), then think again. A truly inspiring and entertaining read about ordinary people, with everyday work and family commitments, achieving the extraordinary. I for one felt inspired to push myself past the limits of my own excuses, who is with me?

I never realised long distance running could be so funny. This book has lots of humour and information on top of the great running story. I was sad to finish it. A small gripe is that the quality of the pictures inside could be better. The picture on the front is great though. It probably won't win a prize for literature but it will sit very well alongside the likes of Richard Asquith's "Feet in the Clouds". Read it!
