Book Description

15 Oct 2007
After a charity run in the Peak District, Matt, Vin and Mal decide to raise the stakes by running from St Bees Head on the Cumbrian coast to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire. On a sunny May morning in 2006, they set off on a seven-day, 180-mile west-to-east coast challenge to take in the Lakeland fells, the limestone dales, the wild North York Moors and all points in between. With Mal in competition on his mountain-bike and the other two on foot, supported by Andy and Justin in a chase-car, they find themselves, despite 18 months of rigorous planning, facing a variety of unforeseen situations involving the weather, the terrain and the local wildlife. However, as Matt realises in this lively and detailed mile-by-mile account, their biggest challenge comes from themselves. Pushing their levels of endurance to the limit, they undertake the equivalent of seven consecutive mountainous marathons with all the attendant pain and despair and the ultimate goal of reaching the North Sea - on time, on course and still on their feet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for the help! 13 Dec 2007
Format:Paperback
We're coming to Britain to walk the Coast to Coast next year and are looking for as much help as possible. This book was recommended to us and we found it enthralling. We certainly know what to expect now, particularly as we've adapted our proposed route around the one Matt took. We think Wainwright would approve. Roll on next year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly good! 12 Dec 2007
Format:Paperback
Originally I bought it for my brother for Christmas (as he's planning on doing the coast to coast next year) however when it arrived I read it from cover to cover. I don't go in for all this endurance stuff but found this tale highly engrossing. Well done Matt and his merry band. What's next?

Have just reordered a second new one for Christmas present!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring!! 13 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
What a marvellous and inspirational journal. If anyone is preparing for a long distance event reading this journal should be part of your preparation. If you weren't thinking of doing a long distance event, read this and you probably will (that'd now be me). I felt like I was part of the team as I experienced the highs and lows along with Matt and. I'm now waiting to find out about the follow up adventure!
