Product Description

What starts as a routine stabbing for Detective Inspector Jed Parish and new recruit Police Constable Mary Richards turns into the hunt for a serial killer who uses an unusual weapon to kill, and leaves numbered tokens in his victim’s mouths. As well as getting to know each other and dealing with the fallout from the Chief’s prostate cancer, the two new partners must discover the dark history behind the tokens and the connection between the victims. To do that, they need to gain access to the abandoned Beech Tree Orphanage where a terrible truth awaits.

Bought it for new Kindle as it was cheap ... but would happily have paid full price for this one. Really liked the main characters, and the repartee between them was great. Will definitely buy more from this author!!

I gave this book 5 stars because I liked the way it was written, as it keeps the reader not only interested but also entertained as the 2 main characters had a rapport with each other that I found really funny. The story is such that it never gets stale or uninteresting and reminded me to a degree of the character created by R.D.Wingfield, Inspector Jack Frost, and his dry humour. The author gets right into the story without any side tracking of unnecessary and boring information. I have already down loaded the second book featuring Parish and Richards and am sure will enjoy this one just as much.

A very enjoyable and well-written crime thriller, evidently well researched and with a good twist at the end. If there's a criticism it's that, despite the steady stream of corpes, it's almost too 'nice' in places, as it focusses on the relationship between popular, newly-promoted DI Jed Parish and his trainee partner, the keen, bright and generally adorable Mary Richards. Parish's domestic arrangements fall quickly and almost-too-happily into place - and his boss is a really nice guy too. Perhaps recognising this, the author throws in a seriously nasty (and Parish-hating) cop near the end, who's set to create more grief in the sequel. Very definitely worth a read though, and hard to put down.

This was my first Parish and Richards novel. A very enjoyable read. Murder, mystery a little humour and romance (but not too much) Have already purchased Parish and Richards 2

Enjoyed the banter
I really enjoyed the banter between the two main characters. The basic premise that a new and very young police officer would just be that lucky to join a newly promoted DI... Read more

Good but need to be proof read again
The mystery is well thought out and follows logically. It deals with police corruption, a serial killer, but the key to the story isn't the murder, but the Parish, Richards--who is... Read more

Shallow and perdantic
If you are a fan of detective/crime/fiction this novel will not impress. It has the enthusiasm of a new author to recommend it but little else. Read more

Cheap thrills
What a great start to this series! Ellis' dialogue is sharp, witty and east-London inspired. The story line moves at quite a pace but if I have one criticism - it's that the... Read more

I found this story overly sweet and not gritty enough for a crime novel. The ridiculous story line of the relationship between Parish and Richards' mum ruined the story for me. Read more

I bought Life for a Life as I buy many Kindle books, by the review stars rather than by the author. It's my way of finding authors to look out for in the future. Read more
