Wonderful 21 Mar 2006
Format:Hardcover
This is a beautiful photographic book. The clarity of the images taken inside the womb are astounding. The book moves through the stages of development of the foetus and cover other areas such as images of cancer cells and viruses.
The only problem i have with the book is that it is quite brief and there is no in-depth text to accompany the images.
It would be great to see a more extensive version of this book with more images to cover the same time span.
Nevertheless this is a mesmerising book. I find myself staring at the pictures for ages because they are such a rare sight.

I initially bought this book because I'd seen a news article about it containing images never before seen using the latest in scanning technology (e.g., neural development in a foetus).

The images are absolutely stunning - they cover a variety of cell types, parts of the body, development of a foetus, bacteria etc. My favourite is a close-up of a toothbrush against the surface of a tooth - you'll never look at such mundane things in the same way ever again!

I'd recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the human body - there is little text, which is great since the images more than speak for themselves. It's a great coffee table book as well as a book which you can dip into at any point.
