5.0 out of 5 stars A novel that will change your impact on people and life., 28 Jul 1999
By A Customer
As a twelve-year-old eighth-grader who has never had a weight problem, I can't fully understand what Lara Ardeche, perfect homecoming queen turned overweight and confused, would be going through. Lara has always been the talk of the school. Before she was diagnosed with "Axell-Crowne Syndrome", she had the perfect parents, perfect boyfriend, perfect looks, perfect grades, perfect friends...everything that turned out to be not so perfect. After she was diagnosed with the syndrome and started gaining weight, she was still the talk of the school, but in a way which you cannot imagine, unless, of course, you read this novel. "Life In the Fat Lane" is not down to the tiniest detail unrealistic. The way students behave is perfectly described in this book, nothing more could be said. The language, thoughts, and worries of Lara and her peers all add up to make a fantastic novel...a novel that makes you think, makes you change your ways, and makes you never want to put it down again.

5.0 out of 5 stars I could almost feel myself in this book, 31 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I think Cherie Bennett is a wonderful author. I've liked all of her books that I've read, but this one is probably my favorite one. So many teens can totally relate to this, just as I can. I've always been a little overweight, and I know how it feels to be the center of the jokes. I can totally put myself in Lara's shoes, although I don't weigh nearly as much. I was jealous in the beginning, with Lara being so skinny and popular, and then as she was gaining weight, I still envied her, she had a boyfriend that loved her enough to not dump her when she was overweight. This novel was definatly one of the best ones I've ever read. I definatly recommend this book to other teens, whether they're overweight or not. It will teach them how much it hurts people to get made fun of.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book sure to leave you with a smile, 26 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Life in the Fat Lane is a book that really teaches that popularity and looks aren't everything. Lara is a teenage girl with everything you could possibly desire, that is, until she starts gaining weight. Lara ends up gaining so much weight that she is able to realize how special her friend Molly is when she sticks to her side. I liked this story because it didn't say that everything was perfect, but it showed that it's not the end of the world when you gain weight. One of the best things about the book is that Lara learns not to degrade herself for being fat, and is happier with herself. People who like inspirational books or just a good book, will be sure to love Life in the Fat Lane.
