Book Description

A Life In Rhyme - People Poems is the third book in a collection of rhyming story poems I've written over a period of years.

None of them were initially written for book publication, but I have received such encouragement from friends and family about them, I've decided to compile the verses into four different titles.

Book 3 sheds light on the lives of some of my colleagues and acquaintances and the story poems I've written for special events in their lives.

I've changed the names of all the recipients, but not the actual poems I wrote for them.

These mini This Is Your Life poems were given for birthdays, anniversaries and various other occasions, all except the last two.

These were written about an elderly relation who is still going strong despite being robbed, beaten, widowed and suffering various falls resulting in hospital admissions.

I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

More About the Author

Best Selling author, Jean Shaw started her literary career by accident writing poetry. She lives in UK and believes things happen for a reason.

Her first three books were written because of peer pressure, and the first, her favourite, was snapped up by a publisher in less than a week. Her writing is conversational and friendly.

Jean's youngest son has autism and she links that and other health issues to mercury poisoning caused by dental amalgams. All the details and stories in her books on these subjects are true and sadly, do happen to people.

Jean's books are mostly non-fiction and based on personal experiences.

Jean likes condensing stories into rhyming verse and many of her books contain poems she's written. She's especially proud of her A Life In Rhyme series of poetry books and her two children's books - Jodi Goes To The Farm and Jodi Goes To The Zoo, which are completely educational rhyming verse.

She also interviews many inspirational people and you can listen to several of her chats at

Apart from writing and interviewing, Jean develops websites, and is currently helping local businesses with their online presence at

Jean believes it's never too late to get out of your comfort zone.

You can follow her on her blog at which she regrets she has little time to update these days, but hopes each entry is worth reading

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Affirming Poetry 28 April 2014

Jean Shaw writes poems about people she knows; deftly picking out their foibles and taking the time to notice their good points - all in properly rhythmic verse. If you are a fan of poetry I recommend this book, especially the touching penultimate piece, The Widow.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Life In Rhyme is Purely Brilliant!!! 27 April 2014

I have read many random stories and poetry books in the past and Jean Shaw hits it right on the head when it comes to poetry in real life. She names each person and the events in their lives that they celebrate and overcome.

She tells the story of people in her life through poetry and does an amazing job. Covering birthdays and life events, the book flows very well and is a great read. I would recommend this book to any poetry & story telling fan. I will definitely check out her other "Life in Rhyme" books....Well done!
5.0 out of 5 stars What A Gift! 16 Feb. 2014

A friend recommended i read Life in Rhyme-People Poems. I'm so glad I took her advise. People's Poems is a "feel good book". The author, Jean Shaw has a unique ability to take the ordinary and turn it into the extra-ordinary. She captures the essence of her friends and family and sums them up in a few words. They come alive and I'm touched by the humanness and warmth Jean brings to each poem. Some of the poems, especially the last two about The Widow and Tough old Bird, made me reflect on the passing of time and reminded me to take time to visit and care more for my elderly relatives and to give thanks for the circle of life, reflected through Jean's words.

Makes a great gift for anyone celebrating their 40th or 50th Birthday.
