Biography

Simple Minds were formed in Glasgow in the late 70s by Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill. They are best known for the track "Don't You Forget about Me", which was used in the brat pack film The Breakfast Club in 1985.

Simple Minds came from the ashes of a short-lived punk band, they developed their musical style over their first four albums, incorporating new wave, experimental electronica and prog… Read more in Amazon's Simple Minds Store

In the beginning... 13 May 2007
By Nicholas Casley TOP 100 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
This was their first album release, and is clearly dated to the end of the 1970s with its basic-synth sub-punk feel. Despite Jim Kerr's constant whine-of-a-voice, the album does have a few gems hidden in its sleeve. The title track and "Chelsea Girl" often appear on early compendiums, but "Someone" and "Destiny" are just as good and betray their later stadium-rock pretensions. All eight minutes of "Pleasantly Disturbed" is pleasantly challenging with Charlie indulging in some Ultravox-esque violin-playing. This track also shows that the boys had brains and were not pure pop merchants, but rather composers with an eye for the unusual and avant-garde.

I bought this album not too long ago and I found it a little weird even though I bought Celebration which had a few of the songs on it . But the more you hear it the more you love it and despite it sounding too Roxy Music or Cockney Rebel it can still rock your socks off .

Songs such as Pleasantly Disturbed and Murder Story still have an edge to them that hasn't dated in 22 years ( in fact all 10 of them haven't dated ).

In the end you'll be left wondering why didn't I buy this album before !

Remember when you had a favourite Lp, but it was so scratched you couldn't hear the music anymore? Here is the answer, the limited edition Simple Minds remasters. Crystal clear, crackle free songs that you remember from years gone by. Highlights are Wasteland and pleasantly disturbed, bringing back memories of the dark power of Simple Minds early days. Great packaging too, the cover and innner sleeve are replicas of the original album artwork
