4.0 out of 5 stars Deep rocking blues with huge energy 21 May 2011
By Jon
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have had the pleasure to see this band live twice, and they are amazing. The energy that they give off at a live concert is incredible, and visually spectacular, and so I was hoping that this CD would capture some of their live energy, and I Was not dissapointed!

I think it is brilliant, and even better than their first album, which was very good. This album has more outstanding tracks, and the sound of the guitar, especially on the track Virgil Caan is awesome...deep heavy thunderous guitar, remeniscent of Gary Moore, and if you turn up the volume it comes oh so close to the live experience. Sherry Dee (Track 2) is one of my favourites, and reminds me of AC/DC with it's classic rocking riff that is just so catchy, and it was the first song they played at the first gig I saw, and I still remember the impact of when the harmonica player burst out of the back and everything came to life, wow!

There is a wonderful mixture of tracks including 'Anybody' which is a beautiful simple acoustic song demonstrating that Gerry really has excellent vocals.

I tried to give this review five stars, but was only allowed to give four...buy this album, and if you do, turn it up, as only then does it come alive and suddenly it all makes perfect sense!

5.0 out of 5 stars Harrogate Blues Bar 28 May 2011
By David
Format:Audio CD
I heard them live at the Harrogate Blues Bar, they rocked the joint out. The drummer never stopped since he began (entertained the audience whilst the band had a break), the bassist is excellent, the harp player does immense riffs and you can tell he feels the music. The lead guitarist is amazing, jumping about, dancing - reminds me of a cross between Keith Richards, Rod Stewart, Angus Young and Jack Black.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life at Captain Tom's 21 Jun 2011
Format:Audio CD
Gerry Jablonski and the Electric Band
Life at Captain Tom's
(Fat Hippy Records)

Almost two years after their successful debut album, Gerry Jablonski and the Electric Band are back with their latest musical masterpiece, Life at Captain Tom's . The blues based rock band from Aberdeen continue the good work of the first album but with a maturing style that reflects the level of collaboration among the band members. Indeed, this is very much a Gerry Jablonski and the Electric Band album and not Gerry and a backing band. All members of the band have worked together to produce a product that is uniquely theirs.
Again, I can't review the entire album, so let's just look at some of my highlights.
The album opens with "The higher you climb", an attention grabbing track that highlights Peter Narojczyk's excellent harmonica style as he musically duels with Gerry's guitar.
Track three, "Koss" pays tribute to the late Paul Kossof. As Gerry says "If this sounds like Free or Bad Company, it's `cause it's meant to".
"High on you" is a beautifully haunting song that slows things down and gives a great opportunity to note the talent of Dave and Grigor as backing singers. Peter manages to produce unimaginably low notes on the harmonica that must leave his lungs screaming for air.
I absolutely love "Hot" It is full on tongue in cheek sexism. I'm sorry girls, we're blokes and make nom apology for it. ;)
"Anybody" is a reworking of a song Gerry wrote a few years ago. It is a beautiful, acoustic number that slows things right down. Becoming increasingly popular in the live shows, this track has become an anthem that, even first time fans, find themselves sing along with.
But, again, don't take my word for it. Buy the album, listen to the music. Even better get out and see the guys live. You will not be disappointed.
