Book Description

5 Sep 2011 Gone
A blood-pumping, white-knuckle sci-fi thriller of epic proportions It happens in one night: a girl who died now walks among the living, Zil and the Human Crew set fire to Perdido Beach, and amid the flames and smoke, Sam sees the figure of the boy he fears the most - Drake. But Sam and Caine defeated him along with the Darkness ...or so they thought. As Perdido Beach burns, battles rage: Astrid against the Town Council; the Human Crew versus the mutants; and Sam against Drake. And the prophetess Orsay and her companion, Nerezza, are preaching that death will set them all free. As life in the FAYZ becomes more desperate, no one knows who they can trust.

Review

"'... exciting, high-tension story told in a driving, torrential narrative that never lets up. This is great fiction. I love this book.' Stephen King, bestselling author. 'A tour-de-force that will leave readers dazed, disturbed, and utterly breathless' Booklist; 'If Stephen King had written Lord of the Flies, it might have been a little like this' Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) (Starred Review) 'I Love this book' - Stephen King, bestselling author"

About the Author

Michael Grant has spent much of his life on the move. Raised in a military family, he attended ten schools in five states of the USA, as well as three schools in France. Even as an adult he kept moving, and in fact he became a writer in part because it was one of the few jobs that wouldn't tie him down. His fondest dream is to spend a whole year circumnavigating the globe and visiting every continent. Yes, even Antarctica. He lives in Southern California, with his wife, Katherine Applegate, their two children, and far too many pets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the fourth 21 May 2010
Format:Hardcover
i was so exited about this book i actually pre-ordered it, which ive basically never done before and i was not to be disapointed, this novel is amazing, at points it made me; gleeful, sevearly depressed and at one point even queezy. Michael Grant has the power to make the reader feel the emotions straight from the character, which is brilliant. I feel that this book matches if not beats Gone and Hunger, its so attention grabbing, i couldnt keep my eyes from the page until it was finished. The only bad thing is the long wait for the fourh book, plague, to come out.
Just to say i got the american version of this book from Amazon.co.uk, and im pretty sure that the engish version of lies-which is bright blue, doesnt come out till september of this year.

4.0 out of 5 stars awesome series 24 Sep 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This series is awesome. I don't want to write a proper review for this book so not to spoil it for others so I am going to list the things I liked about it and the series.

The series is original in its approach despite reminding me of several other things such as Lost, heroes and lord of the flies.

The books are hard core and definately not for the faint of heart. There is some pretty nasty stuff in them which happens which make for some difficult reading. I don't know what is more difficult, the fact the things actually happen in the story or the fact that you can imagine them actually happening in a world where the entire population is under 15.

Some hard hitting questions about morality and humanity are raised and discussed throughout.

The main characters in this book are awesome. I love Sam (although I didn't feel like he was there as much in this book) and Edilio and I hate the villians of the piece - really really hate them.

I love the fact that I have no idea what is actually going on. Everytime I think I have it sussed my ideas are blown out of the water. The ending of this book in particular blew my mind.

In short - read the series it is awesome!
