The Used emerged flipping two middle fingers at what passed for the rock n’ roll status quo while snatching platinum, gold and silver certifications in North America, Europe and Australia and kicking open the doors of MTV and the Top 10.
Now freed of the shackles of corporate bureaucracy and even the limitations of geography (half the band now lives abroad), The Used is creating the ... Read more in Amazon's The Used Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Best The Used Album 27 Mar 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This album is great, it features songs like Pretty Handsome Awkward and The Bird And The Worm, which are really catchy, as well as more melodic songs like Smother Me. Great balance, would recommend picking this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome... 10 Jan 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought the album mostly for The Bird And The Worm, however I liked Pretty Handsome Awkward too...But when I listened to the rest of it, it took me a little bit of time to warm to it - But then I started loving it!! Paralyzed is my favourite, also Hospital, With Me Tonight and Wake The Dead, Liar Liar and Smother Me are definitely worth a listen :) Earthquake and The Ripper are not the best tracks in the world, but the guitars are pretty sweet - and Bert's vocals are insane on every track :D All in all, definitely a very good buy :) <3

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazing album but little content on the DVD 7 Feb 2009
Format:Audio CD
First of all... the album on its own gets a full 5 stars from me, because its really amazing! I bought it after seeing them live at the Give It A Name festival and only really liked a few songs from some of the earlier albums, but after seeing them live i became a huge fan... and so i bought the earlier albums and the special edition of this one...

The DVD that comes with this is pretty pants in all honesty, very short and not worth dishing out the extra money for. I would have at least liked a music video or something along those lines, but instead there is a pretty simple 'making of' and very little else.

However, the artwork in the 'sleeve' is great.

So, if your liking The Used, then buy the album alone, because the DVD is terrible for the extra money, but if your a BIG BIG fan i am sure this will be right up your street...

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Brilliant! 12 Jun 2007
Format:Audio CD
The third album by The Used is truly brilliant! They are as good as ever and have even managed to improve since their last album. I got it as soon as it came out and have not stopped listening to it since.

The Utah quartet still manage to retain the the hard rock/emo feel but mix it with catchy tunes and great lyrics. The album moves from ripping screamo guitar riffs, to instrumental ballad seamlessly and the lyrics are also very good.

The album starts off with the "The Ripper" which is the worst song on it. But even so it's still a good song when not compared to their other stuff. From then on it alternates between pop/rock tunes and hard rock/screamo but thist does not make the album sound broken up in anyway. All the songs sound very genuine and are sung really well.

It does not sound like some garage mix but a very well made studio album. Overall brilliant album that will not become tiresome after 4 hearings.

Well worth buying.

I'd never really given The Used the time of day. I'd heard their previous efforts and was relatively unimpressed, it just sounded like generic punk pop with a little bit of screaming.

However, this album has made me think again because this really is The Used branching out and distancing themselves from their peers while still being as accesible by the older fans.

Find A Way is an immediate standout track, with an intro of a medley of odd sounds while first single, The Bird And The Worm is an instant classic with the kind of experimentation found on 'Thnks Fr Th Mmrs' by Fall Out Boy with strings, ominous backing vocals and creaking doors.

However, there are songs that sound straightaway like The Used old fans will know; Pretty Handsome Awkward and Wake The Dead take pop punk and turn it on it's head with heavier guitars and fantastic pop choruses.

To summarise, if you like pop punk with an edge but with it's fair share of individuality then you need this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars the third album gets the thumbs up 23 May 2007
By sean paul mccann VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
The used's third album was according to vocalist bert mccracken prior to this going to be their heaviest album to date and contain lots of screaming and then he contradicted himself by stating that the band wanted to move away from the screamo genre and make a hard rock album, strange confusion there readers, nevertheless what you get here with 'lies for the liars' is an album that is great, some screaming remains, ballads remain and uptempo pop rock tracks along with hard hitting riffs all make up this album and with the exception of two tracks its a sure fire winner.

I may as well single out the two poor tracks and chance my arm to criticism from other readers, the tracks 'earthquake' and album closer 'smother me' are very middle of the road average, too sickly sweet in a way and not that exciting, they aint the worst tracks in the world but the used have wrote a lot better in their time so i aint gonna pretend that they are great.

Despite that you have nine tracks that have many styles and genres, this isnt an overly heavy album but it can be quite dark, look no further than the brilliant 'wake the dead' which is filled with creepy synths and atmosphere and rocks hard but then descends into pink floyds 'dark side of the moon' territory,a great track as are the remaining ones as well, probably not the used's best work but worth a listen all the same.Nearly vital.
