Product Description

Product Description

This is the latest CD from one of today's leading saxophonists and focuses on the music of one of his major influences, John Coltrane. With a few exceptions David Liebman has largely avoided covering Coltrane tunes in recent times so his fresh take on the repertoire is all the more memorable for this. Of additional interest is that it's an all blues programme including three of Trane's own compositions together with one each by Miles Davis and Duke Ellington. Liebman has enjoyed memorable playing stints with Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Chick Corea and more recently as part of the Saxophone Summit with Joe Lovano and the late Michael Brecker. On this live recording he's accompanied by a top notch Dutch rhythm unit that he's worked with on a number of occasions. Personnel: David Liebman (soprano and tenor saxophones), Marius Beets (bass), Eric Ineke (drums)

Review

(4 stars) David Liebman is one of the most creative jazz saxophonists on the planet...it's a sax master-class, as usual. -- The Guardian, (John Fordham), November 12, 2010

Lieb blows 20 Feb. 2013
By mark mazor - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
This interesting date finds Dave in a trio setting with bass and drums only leaving the sound of the band a little dry.To play in this setting is difficult for all except the blowing of David Liebman who plays ala trane by almost blowing the keys off the instrument. He plays strong here and make his sidemen sound like students. He plays both Tenor and Soprano here but i prefer the Soprano.
