So just how come it took Tim Roth so long to get the lead role in a major television series? Once they’d taken one look at Lie To Me, it’s a fair bet that many casting directors were asking the same question, as Roth manages to breathe plenty of life into the central role of Dr Cal Lightman. Inspired by a real life character, Lightman is the head of The Lightman Group, where he works alongside a team of experts as they go about their chosen business: detecting lies.
We quickly learn that in Lie To Me, Lightman is the king of his craft, and the skills of he and his team are then bolted on to what would otherwise be a fairly standard police drama. For whether it’s helping the cops, the FBI or other US government agencies, Lightman and his crew quickly prove to be brilliant at spotting the slightest hint of dishonesty from microscopic movements and gestures, and their particular skills are thus in high demand.
Fortunately for the drama in Lie To Me, there are plenty of skilled fibbers to practice their work on, and thanks to some excellent writing, the show doesn’t take long to become compulsive viewing. And, let’s not understate this, Roth is brilliant as Lightman, heading up a clever, intelligent show that’s well worth discovering. A treat. --Jon Foster

I love this show!, its by far one of the best shows on television at the moment. I think this season is slightly better than the first because this season has got more character developement, which i loved to see and found interesting. I love Tim roth and Kelli Williams chemistry and i think it really shows with their characters. Lie to me season 2 is brilliant and would recommend to anyone :)

The second season of Lie to Me meets expectations and allows us to discover more about Dr Cal Lightman's background and controversial personality. A lot of credit goes to Tim Roth, an outstanding actor, who gifted Dr Lightman with a London accent that contributes to the character's eccentricity.
The plots are credible and well supported by Kelli Williams as the diligent Dr Gillian Foster - whose acting ability was undervalued in series like "Medical Investigation".
The boring parts, at least from my point of view, are the events involving Cal's daughter Emily, a dull and predictable character - in terms of teenagers who appear in TV series, I prefer Richard Castle's daughter Alexis (actress Molly Quinn), who is more interesting and independent.
Overall rating: good, I'll surely follow the third season.

Lie to me series two gets better and better. A brilliant drama and close to the latest applications of communication psychology. It's all there, I couldn't even fool my playtime supervisor at school, but maybe she was a natural. Can't wait for the further series. My grandson in California is well into the third series. A modern classic.

this is a really good programme and I have also got season 1 and 3! I recommend this for anyone who likes similar programmes like sci, or cold case

Gripping series...
Great series - bought the dvd for my 13 year old daughter who is also now hooked! Great characters whose own flaws slowly are realised through each series. Read more

A somewhat patchy second season.
Much as predicted in my review of season one, it is clear that the writers are running out of permutations of the "you're lying and I'm going to catch you out" theme. Read more
