5.0 out of 5 stars crime with a difference 14 May 2011

This is one of a series of novels but it is not difficult to read out of order as the characters are well described & the story would stand alone. It involves a Rabbi, a Christian secretary, police , land owners & murder. There were several surprises along the road , including young people being shown to have a great deal of common sense which is not how they are often described & adults being prepared to take the lead in a challenging situation. There were a good few red herrings & the ending very surprising. The religion did not interfere with the story but more set the scene , & I will read more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rollercoaster Ride 5 May 2011

Firstly, I should warn you that this kindle edition does contain typos with words running into each other, likethis. Secondly, this is what is classed as Christian fiction, but don't worry, it isn't something that tries to ram religion down your throat, although there is a discussion notes section at the back.

Apparently this is the third novel in the 'Psalm 23 Mysteries' series, and so I have been reliably informed by someone from the States, most people think this is the best. The story revolves around Cindy, a church secretary, and Jeremiah, a Rabbi from a neighbouring Synagogue. When Jeremiah is involved in a car crash one morning he claims that he believed the other driver to already be dead when the cars collided. An autopsy bears this out, showing that the other driver had been poisoned. What looks like another accident also turns out to be the same, and the bodies start mounting up. With Cindy having her own ideas of what is happening she makes her own investigations, keeping the police sort of in the loop. At the same time Jeremiah has to help out at a inter-faith weekend camp. What everyone is starting to question though, is who wants the land that the camp is on, Green Pastures, so badly that they will kill for it?

With Cindy in trouble herself, and Jeremiah stranded at the camp with a group of teens due to heavy rain, things are working towards a showdown. When it becomes apparent that the kids are in great danger, Jeremiah has to put into action all his skills from his previous life to keep them alive.

With red herrings, a mystery, action and adventure there is more than enough to keep even the most jaded reader interested. If you like something fast and furious, then read this.

5.0 out of 5 stars a good read 4 Jun 2012

I got this book as a freebie, or I wouldn't have bothered, because of the religious title, but the religious parts are short and integrated so well you hardly notice them. The main irritation is the poor proof-reading, and the words run into each other in many places.
The story seems to be a continuation of a series, but stands alone fairly well -although I did wonder about this in the beginning -it reads like the continuation of a story rather than the beginning. It is centred around a synagogue and a gentile church that are next door to each other and there is a lot of interaction between both staff and parishioners.
The plot is based around a campsite used by all churches, and a retreat being held there. There is also a 'war' raging as the site is wanted by more than one buyer and people who oppose the sale start dropping like flies.
The investigation and further dangers involving the gentile church secretary and the Rabbi, are central to the story and when the latter is trapped by flooding, with a group of youngsters at the camp, and the group are being pursued by (to them) unkown villains, the former sets about finding out who is behind the evil and then rescuing the rabbi and his charges.
The story ends with a cliff-hanger and I found this particularly annoying as there is no follow-up book in the series that I can find.
That (and typos) apart, I enjoyed the fast-paced book very much and it was hard to guess the end with so many red herrings.
I hope we find the answer to the riddle at the end before too much longer - or before I forget what happened in this book (after all, I am an OAP!!).

It is said that he makes us to lie down in green pastures. Now, for a sheep, this serves two purposes: one it is abundant, good food, and two, it is a soft and peaceful place to rest. In fact, sheep won't lie down if they aren't certain they can find food and if they are experiencing fear. So, green pastures represents that which brings you a sense of peace and well-being in your life. "e;
