Product Description

Review

"'In an age obsessed with C-list television celebrities battling it out on phoney "reality" survival shows, Rees and his dwindling band of Great Escapers stand out as the real thing.' The Daily Telegraph 'Written in frank, warm and readable style, this is a very engaging account of a remarkable life.' New History 'A brave man's memory. Hear the fear yet take succour from the courage.' North Wales Chronicle"

Product Description

Often quoted as the model for the Steve McQueen character in "The Great Escape", by age 21, Ken had already trained to be a pilot officer; flown 56 hair-raising bomber missions by night over Germany; taken part in the siege of Malta; got married; been shot down into a remote Norwegian lake; and been captured, interrogated and sent to Stalag Luft III. He took part in and survived the Great Escape and then the forced March to Bremen. This is truly a real-life adventure story, written with accuracy, pace and drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Read, 8 Jan 2010
By Peter G. Porter "Trasksdad" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Lie in the Dark and Listen (Reminiscence) (Paperback)
This is a real adventure and an enjoyable read. Wg/Cdr Rees was thye last man in the Great Escape tunnel when it was discovered and didn't make it out. However, this means that he was able to give a very detailed account of the whole operation. My father was in the same camp (Stalagluft III) and there is a great excerpt about the parties that used to occur in Block 103 (his Hut). It enabled me to fill in some extra info on my own Web site at [...]. THIS IS A WONDERFULLY WRITTEN BOOK AND WELL WORTH OBTAINING EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO CONECTION WITH THE EVENTS.
