4.0 out of 5 stars A very decent game. 2 May 2011
By RJW VINE VOICE
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This game first appeared on the pc almost 9 years ago. Why it's taken so long to appear on the DS is beyond me, it seems so suited to the hand-held market.

Bookworn DS is a puzzle game in the true sense of the word. Each level sees the player being presented with a grid of square tiles, each with a letter on them. The idea of the game is to create words by joining adjacent tiles. It's a format that is easy to comprehend and understand. Making this game instantly accessible to all.
The actual game-play navigation is accomplished by dragging the stylus across the letters on the screen. The word is completed by either tapping the 'submit' button, or by tapping the final letter twice.
You are awarded points depending on the length of the word, the speed with which the word was found.
The scoring system is simple enough, but the way in which the DS collects them provides an excellent distraction. You can look up your highest scoring word, cross reference the best times and look at other similar stats. This serves no purpose other than to keep records of your game-playing skills. Which is nice, as it helps to see where you can improve.

There's a few extras and such that make this game all the more enjoyable however. As you progress though the levels, you are rewarded with new 'rooms' to play in. These are basically different backgrounds/wallpapers. They offer little more than something different to look at, but eliteists will naturally wish to collect all of these.
The method of collecting these rooms is a nice touch however.. There are certain hidden words within each book. Finding these words make advancing to the next level possible. If for example you are plaing the cook-book level, certain words such as 'bread' 'baking' and 'sauces' are hidden.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game 22 May 2011
By Alison
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Had played bookworm on the PC so thought that I would give it a go on the DS. I have been very happy with the game its very similar to the PC version except that there are libary's of words to find as well eg animals, tools, minerals, sports. The only real problem that I can see is after you get a high score and burn out when playing the DS version rather than the pc version, is that the Ds is much easier to throw than a desk top pc.......lol

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive Word Play 29 May 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
My good lady bought this for herself and after showing me how to play, we now fight over who gets to play the game first! It is a variant on wordsearches, with a Tetris style twist that means you can pick up bonus points for the use of certain words and tiles, or equally if the nasty red fire tile reaches the bottom, then game over. It has a few twists like the action challenge which sharpens the wits and the game itself is genuine fun for those rare spare moments those of us with small children enjoy.

I love this game. Every other game I have played on my ds makes me want to find an open window and send it flying but not this one. So if you want to destress and relax (for hours, normally!) then this is the game for you.

This game is ok, but it doesn't have much variety. It could have done with a few more variations on the theme. I would say it's only worth buying if you can get it for a few quid. I recommend Puzzler World if you want wordy games with more variety.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game 2 Jun 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I really love Bookworm in all its forms. I fill in odd spare time with my DS and find this game is my favourite. Only minor quibble is that my vocabulary is larger than the game's, but you can't have everything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bookworm 7 Dec 2013

This is the sort of computer game I like. Not the same as the Bookworm version for the pc. It accepts most, but not some of English words. You can't alter the dictionary for the game but if you struggle it accepts most American variations to help you along
