library lion 10 Dec 2009
By cheech
Format:Paperback
I first heard this story from 'Cbeebies bedtime stories' and purchased the book straight away. My 19 month old daughter who can barely say 'Library Lion' loves this story we read it every night for bed! its a beautiful tale with many themes - making friends, being helpful, following rules, being told off, feeling happy and sad - and has good humour, with a nice message at the end.
The illustrations are warm and lovely with plenty of things to talk about besides the story itself. There is some good roaring to join in with too! Its just the right length for a bedtime read.
I would say that children up to around the age of 6 would enjoy this book just as much as my little girl - and her mama!

This is a lovely picture book, a gentle story with gorgeous timeless illustrations. Visiting the library regularly, Lion is allowed in because he sticks to the rules and there's nothing to say that lions aren't allowed in. Helpful and kind the lion is soon a firm favourite with all the library visitors. Then one day, the lion performs a good deed, a rescue, that requires a loud roar but he is therefore banned from the library. It's a sad day for the lion, the library and its visitors, but then perhaps rules aren't always fixed in stone and can, with good reason, be altered... Hurrah! Perfect for 3-6s.

Who said that animals can't join in storytime at the library, as long as they follow the same rules as everybody else? Oh, no! What happens when a lion is friendly and likes to roar loudly? Does that mean he is not allowed to come to the library anymore? If you look inside this lion, at the heart, you'll see why he can be your very best friend. If you or your little ones like going to the library, you'll LOVE this book as did my 6 year old daughter!

A story with a happy ending
Pity that the story is so stereotypical about libraries and librarians - rules, no running, no noise, a Miss with a bun and glasses as librarian etc, but of course the story... Read more

A future classic
A lovely, charmingly illustrated tale that deserves a place on every child's bookshelf. Not to mention a nice little homily about the occasional need to put the normal rules aside.

Beautiful illustrations
My 3 yr old boy's favourite bedtime story, full of beautiful soft character illustrations and gentle friendly narrative. A cuddly bedtime classic, not a querky comedy.
