Product Description

Product Description
This limited edition of the Libertines features the original album plus a bonus DVD featuring live footage, "Can’t Stand Me Now" video, an on-the-road documentary and a photo gallery.

CD Description
Recorded over a period of intense media scrutiny due to weakening relationships between main-men Barat and Doherty the band re-recruited ex-Clash guitarist Mick Jones to produce their follow up to 2002's 'Up The Bracket'. With lyrics openly discussing the band's personal problems the band stay to the format set on their debut. This time there is more of a nod towards 70's punk, but the band retain their huge sense of melody throughout the record. The album contains the single 'Can't Stand Me Now'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking, 20 Nov 2004
By A Customer
At a first listen I thought this could never live up to 'Up the Bracket' - which had been my favourite album of all time. Now it's changed: when I'm happy 'Up the Bracket' is my favourite album, when I'm sad 'The Libertines' is.

The Libertines is heartbreaking if you know the story of Pete and Carl. It is a history of the libertines, songs that in demos used to be happy and uplifting such as "Music when the Lights go Out" and "What Katie Did" are tear-jerking, especially the former. The album makes me want to cry sometimes, but I've always thought that's a good thing in music. Anything that can evoke such a strong emotion in me is fantastic. 'Can't Stand me now' and 'What Became of the Likely Lads' are Pete and Carl's story, and 'The Saga' shows how Pete's drug addiction is spiralling out of control. He sings "i ain't got a problem - it's you with the problem!". The following track Road to Ruin is Carl's response to that, trying to make him see that "all you can be, is right here in your hands".

I highly recommend this album to anyone.

The libertines new album is absolutly fantastic, it is good for when your happy and when your down it picks you up. 'What Katie did', 'Music when the lights go out' and 'Road to Ruin' are my favourites aswell as the heartfelt bonus track 'France' which you have to listen to over and over again! Every song has its individual quality and i would recomend anyone to buy this album!x
