The truth,
By Thomas Cooper "tomc2488" (Essex, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Libertines Bound Together: The Story of Peter Doherty and Carl Barat and how they changed British Music (Hardcover)
Very well written and really the only book you'll ever need about one of Britain's finest, if most short lived bands. The author of course was there for a great deal of the band's lifetime so is well seated to give an accurate portrayal of just what The Libertines were about. And what their music still and always will be about. Roger Sargent's photos complement all of this nicely and add to what is, as well as an informative read (even for the biggest of fans) is also something of a nostalgic experience. As Peter, Carl, John and Gary are all of course still continuing with their various musical endeavours it is a story that is far from over. However "Bound Together" acts as a timely reminder, or at least a kick up the bottom to the wider world, of the importance and brilliance of The Libertines.

If you are a fan of The Libertines buy this book!Like a trip on the Albion this book smells good, looks good and contains a mix of great information and photos. Text contains quotes from the band members and main players themselves. This is far better than information in the usual rock style book where it quotes the drummers mates milkmans brother.. Don't wait for a possible paperback issue! This book is a lovely size, feel and something darn sexy to keep

This review is from: The Libertines Bound Together: The Story of Peter Doherty and Carl Barat and how they changed British Music (Hardcover)
.. read this! Beautifully presented and brilliantly told, this is the story of Peter and Carl and their ill-fated voyage to Arcadia. Anthony Thornton has gathered together all the eye witnesses - including himself and Roger Sargeant who travelled with the band from the start - and has written with compassion and impartiality. It's the kind of wild rock 'n' roll morality tale that's been missing from British music since the anodyne invasion of boy bands and pop idol. Lavishly illustrated with Sargeant's gorgeous pictures, it reveals those Libertines boys in all their squalid beauty. It's not a cut and paste celebrity biography - this one will stand the test of time. It's a modern classic and an esential item on any music fan's bookshelf. Put it next to 'Revolution in the Head'
