One of the glories of 'The Libertine' (aside from Mr Depp's acting of course) was the score. It is very, very beautiful and no track more so than number 15. I defy anyone to 'Rochester's Farewell' and not be moved.

If like me you fell in love with Nyman's work when you heard the stunningly beautiful soundtrack to the film 'The Piano' there is much to enjoy here. Dreamy strings have more prominence than the piano motifs providing a very melancholy and relaxing sound, if perhaps not as engaging as 'The Piano' soundtrack. My one criticism is that there are frequent pieces dotted in the album which are out of place with the rest (obviously to fit the film) being very sharp and loud in comparison to the rest, slightly marring the overall mood as I find myself skipping tracks.
Particular favourite is 'The imperfect enjoyment'

As dark and twisted as the film this score accompanies, this also stands alone a fine piece of music. Sinuous and punchy, and sometimes downright heartbreaking in its poignancy, this is the perfect starting-point for any non-Nyman fans.
