Product Description

Detectives Braxton (Chris Penn) and Kenneshaw (Michael Rooker) are interrogating textile heir Wayland (Tim Roth) over the murder of a prostitute. Certain that they have their man, they place Wayland under a lie detector test. Although he admits to meeting the murdered woman, while drunk, Wayland denies killing her. Instead, he begins to play mind games with the detectives, undermining their confidence in each other and placing doubts in their minds as to his guilt.

5.0 out of 5 stars More twists than a corkscrew ! 19 July 2004
Format:DVD
When I saw this DVD in the shops I couldn't believe my eyes, I'd had the video for a number of years but thought it was rather a low key film that would never see the 'DVD' light of day but here it is - and what a film.
If you want a truly intelligent, well scripted, well acted and above all rounded film then this is for you.
The simple concept is of a man who has been taken in for questioning (Tim Roth) after his phone number has been found in the pocket of a murdered woman. Everything seems to link him to the murder but as the film goes on everything may not be what it seems at first.
Two cops (Chris Penn and Michael Rooker) try to outwit him using a lie detector but after a relatively short while, you start to instinctively feel that 'something just doesn't add up here' but you can't quite work out what.
WIth a number of sub plots intertwining with the main story it'll have you trying to work out who knows who and who did what to whom and when right until the end.
Not a big budget Hollywood film but thoroughly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Who's the Iiar? 30 Mar 2009
Format:DVD
This is quite a clever and intelligent film, which puts Tim Roth in the frame of a murder of a woman, and he undergoes some very enduring and difficult lie detector tests. There are lots of twists and turns (do not want to give ANY away). If you fancy a good thriller outside of the realms of the usual blockbuster type, then go for this, as you'll not be disappointed. The acting and script are well above average,

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie ... horrible DVD 8 Oct 2004
Format:DVD
This is an intelligent film-noir psycho-thriller with top-notch performances by Tim Roth, Michael Rooker, Chris Penn and Renee Zellweger, BUT this DVD is the 4:3 pan&scan fullscreen version of the movie.

The RC1 DVD (listed under the movie's original title "Deceiver"), however, is 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, so choose this version if your player supports it.
