Very good 22 Nov 2011
I totally agree with John and Hannah's previous 5 star reviews.

This story (like the previous one) is much easier to read than a "standard" novel or short story, but is substantial enough to be satisfying to read, and is actually entertaining as a short story in its own right.

To be picky though (which is why I've only given 4 stars) reference to the otherwise useful English translation does throw up some phrases which are not translated at all, and some of the translating is a bit too broad brush to be quite as helpful as it might be. There is also a fair smattering of spelling mistakes.

Even so these books (this and the previous one) are very good indeed, and I hope there might be a few more like this in the pipe line.

Great second book! 22 Sep 2011
I really enjoyed and learned a lot from the first book La vie Celibataire, and that is why I bought this one. It certainly did not disappoint. It is an excellent sequel and I also picked up a lot of French from it. There is great consistency within the books, and although it is not super simple French I think that it is suitable for beginners, intermediate like me and the more advanced learner. Marie-Helene is a great main character, and I found it easy to get my teeth into the book, because of the dynamics between her and the other characters. There were times that I referred to the English translation provided, but most of the time I relied on my own mental abilities, instead of going for a straight translation, and it was good to have the English version to check that I had understood certain phrases. These books have clearly been written to help you learn French while enjoying what you are reading. It certainly works for me and I'll be looking out for more. Great job!

By Hannah
This book is great, I really enjoyed it, just a much as La vie Celibataire. The story continued and seems to have now ended with a short paragraph of the main character, Marie-Helene speaking in the first person about how everything turned out for her and Josette. I learnt so much French from this book because it is not super easy and I was pleased that I picked up quite a lot of what was going on mentally, rather than having to keep referring to the English translation. The plot is imaginative and entertaining, and I loved the part about Claudette's past indiscretion and how Marie-Helene finally meets her man. I do hope that the author is going to continue to write these books, she makes them accessible for beginners and an enjoyable way to learn a language. More please!
