5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, sexy and Fun 24 Sep 2009
By Rod H VINE VOICE
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I remember catching this show a couple of times when it was aired in a late-night slot some years ago. I remember thinking it was a good series wasted by a late-night slot, so when I saw this, and the first series, available on DVD I decided to give it a try..
I was right. This IS a good series and I have enjoyed it tremendously. I am into Sci-Fi anyway, but this is one of the most original, quirky, funny, sexy and entertaining Sci-Fi series I have ever seen. If you liked Farscape and Red Dwarf, imagine this as a cross between the two with added sex-appeal. The characters, (which consist of a Half-cluster Lizard/Half Human Love slave; a dead assassin; a spineless human and a talking Robot Head) are instantly likeable, and their adventures as they pilot an organic weaponship across a bizarre universe range from genuinely exciting to preposterous.. but never less than imaginative!
The entire series is ambitious and wide-ranging, and the feel and design of the show is staggering. The computer generated effects might seem outdated now, but would have been rather state of the art at the time, and these do not detract from the show at all...and some of the storylines may be considered sex-obsessed (hence the original latenight slot). However, I greatly recommend this series...and if it is completely new to you you are in for a treat! But try the first series to begin with....

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy, Crude, Entertaining. 17 Oct 2008
Format:DVD
I wouldn't buy this without having seen season one or it won't make much sense to you - but I do think this season is much more viewer friendly. This is the first proper episodic season and it also sees the replacement of the actress that plays Xev, with a frankly much hotter actress early on.

This series is a little less weird and disgusting (recall all the brain eating? Ugh!) than series one (although still very, very weird) and it takes on a little more of a planet/monster of the week type style.

This show is definately NOT for younger viewers. There are constant sexual references and many of the early episodes are concerned with Stanley and Xev's quest for a good lay. It all gets pretty silly by the middle of the season culminating in an episode where all the crew swop genetalia!! The season ends strongly though with a story arc about a bad guy (I won't spoil it for you).

If crude, silly and weird is for you - then purchase immediately. If not, give Lexx a miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly intelligent kitsch 23 Jan 2011
Format:DVD
Beautifully written, acted with gusto and darkly humorous, at all times with tongue lodged knowingly in cheek , each bar the first season of Lexx uses its own narrative device to relay the story. Though it is more traditionally space-based sci-fi than the two following seasons, season 2 is no less for it, and establishes effectively the personalities that define the show, before bending and breaking those established rules, like the chord sheet for a jazz composition. Those that never understood the show's appeal are unlikely to be swayed by the box set, but for those of us that were, this is an infinitely easier, not to mention cheaper, way of obtaining the show than the previous option of buying single DVDs with a couple of episodes.
