Worth every penny 28 Feb 2011

I bought 2 of these cards (not a big fan of high capacity compact flash cards). I specifically choose lexar everytime and with a speed rating of 200X, you can't go wrong. With a lifetime warranty thrown in, I can't think of a better card at the same price. I, in the past have used Sandisk compact flash cards, both of which have failed (maybe I have just had bad luck). But I will stick with Lexar and I WILL be buying more of these !!!!!

Nikon, in the manual for D700, list only two card manufacturers that get their compatibility approval - yes, you've guessed it; Sandisk and Lexar.

I've always sworn by Sandisk - and continue to do so. I use a variety of sizes and speeds from them, including a 90mbs 16gb and 32gb 60mbs.

So, why the change? Some Lexar cards are about the same, pound per spec, price. The trend these days is for faster and faster cards and so a slowish one, like this has become unfashionable and is thus now a bargain. I looked at the speed of my other Sandisk 16gb - 30 mbs and I was a bit shocked. The only time I needed a faster speed was shooting long time exposure TIFFs. All other times, I hadn't even noticed.

Running two DSLR Nikons semi-professionally, sometimes simultaneously, I needed a couple more biggish cards. Warnings that 16gb was too big for a card to be reliable is without warrant (which came from those who still had their old 1 and 2gb ones and wouldn't replace them).

For the price of one similar spec. Sandisk, I bought two of these Lexars. I took 230 TIFF images today on the full-frame D700 (landscapes, macro, a few deer) filling just over 1/3rd of the card. Downloading to PC via the USB chord direct took no longer than usual (making a cup of tea - and it brewing) and in the field, absolutely no worries. Forgot it was a new card, or a different make - which is how it should be.

Of course, I'll still run the Sandisks, with that 90mbs for occasions that might need it. I don't like to delete images from the card straight away - at least until they're backed up also to at least one external hard drive.

Lexar cards don't come with a little plastic tub to put it into, like Sandisks. I also bought in the same order from Amazon a JJC waterproof card case for only £6.99, which carries up to four compact cards. I've done a separate review of that.

As a guide, a 16gb card (on the FX Nikon D700) will hold 5,600 'basic' jpegs, 2,800 'normal' and 1,400 'fine' jpegs. With 605 RAWs and 418 TIFFs. On a DX format (Nikon D200) that equates to 10,100 basics, 5,100 normals and 2,600 fine jpegs, with 940 RAWs.

In conclusion, yes Sandisk will remain supreme for many and most. Every now and then, however a bargain from an almost equal simply makes SO much sense!

Got this card to replace an 8gb I bought on holiday in Cornwall a couple of years ago which was starting to play up - showing error message on my digital canon SLR - I was also finding that on my sports setting (I photo for the rugby team) sometimes the camera stopped shooting for no reason - but which I now know was the card... eventually it packed up altogether and I lost all my pictures for the game - swopped to this one on basis of Amazon reviews - ok its a lower capacity - but I would struggle to fill 4gb in one game! Its great - no problems and rapid shoot goes on and on!Recommended.

good works fine with Evolt-500
good price and it does what it needs to. I use it for a camera (Evolt 500) to take pictures not videos, but it might be fast enough but I can't comment on that.
