5.0 out of 5 stars Genuine card, genuine class 10 25 Nov 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this product "Lexar 32GB Micro SDHC High Speed Card with Reader - Class 10 Extreme Speed" directly from Amazon. Previously, from a different retailer, I've had the bad luck to get a fake 32GB micro SDHC which even cost more than this genuine card. I had to work hard to get a refund, which is very boring, so the first thing I've done on receiving this is to check that the card is genuine, and that its performance matches the Class 10 claim.

When I connect it using the supplied card reader to my PC running Debian GNU/Linux I can check the kernel messages:

[ 706.071660] usb 2-3: New USB device found, idVendor=090c, idProduct=6200
[ 706.071671] usb 2-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 706.071677] usb 2-3: Product: Generic USB2.0 card
[ 706.071682] usb 2-3: Manufacturer: Silicon Motion, Inc.
[ 706.071687] usb 2-3: SerialNumber: 12345678901234567890

....

[ 707.080096] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdd] 62535680 512-byte logical blocks: (32.0 GB/29.8 GiB)

Silicon Motion is a huge semiconductor/memory/controller manufacturer and Lexar is one of its biggest customers. The formatted, useable capacity is 29.8GB available from 32GB.This all looks as it should so far.

Read test using hdparm, performed 3 times, result averaged:

# for i in 1 2 3; do hdparm -tT /dev/sdd; done

Average timing buffered disk reads are 17.56 MB/sec

Write test: write a 4GB file (maximum possible file size on card's FAT32 file system) and print the time taken (in seconds) and rate of transfer:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/disk/output.img bs=8k count=512k
4294967295 bytes (4.3 GB) copied, 362.33 s, 11.9 MB/s

I also used a PC running Windows XP to download and install the SD Association's SD Formatter 3.1 for SD/SDHC/SDXC. I used it to format the Lexar card and make sure the capacity remained the same and was available to the operating system. Everything was as it should be. I then went back to Debian and ran the write test again:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/media/disk/output.img bs=8k count=512k
4294967295 bytes (4.3 GB) copied, 355.463 s, 12.1 MB/s

The card is a genuine Class 10, exceeding the Class 10 write speed requirement by about 20%. This is a really good product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Android users please read. 7 Jan 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
The card its' self is very good. Transfer rates are high and with a rooted android phone+rom toolbox you can get a good 20+ write speed (however read stays at 9) using the sd boost option, however it does have massive downsides. First is the class 10 badge. Whilst performance in file copying is very good, this card (and most class 10's in general) seem to have latency issues during phone use. Previously i had a sandisk 16gb class 4 and after rooting, my phone had no latency issues at all; the home screens running a live wallpaper, high capacity games (i.e. shadowgun and console emulators) and poweramp had no visual or auidible lag. Now, using the class 10, poweramp lags and jitters between songs and games seem to clip frames occasionaly as well as jittery browsing through the android menus, home screens and app drawer. Pictures also take much longer to load from the gallery app, not just when buffering but also reading file folders on the SD card. The moment I un-mount the sd card in android, my phone instantly becomes silky smooth again and If i put the previous sandisk card in it remains that way. So for all android users, definately re-consider buying class 10 cards. Unless you record high def. video from a cam-corder, a class 4, 6 or 8 is perfectly sufficent. Definately asking for a refund and buying a class 4 Sandisk 32GB instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Choice 2 April 2011
Card arrived within the expected time, carefully packed.

Contents:
- MicroSD 32 GB
- USB MicroSD card reader.

After unpacking, I formated the SD card using EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition. Afterwards, tested all sectors of the SD Card. No errors found, meaning it is truly 32GB. Finally, tested the speeds of the card and noticed that this card is borderline Class 10 (minimum of 10MB/s transfer rate guaranteed), as the transfer speed never passed 11 MB/s (usually around 10.2 MB/s more or less). Arguably this may be due to the usage of the USB Adaptor.

It is importante to remind future buyers that this card is quite adequate for Camcoders, Digital Cameras, and for storing and accessing Music, Movies and Pictures. It is NOT, however, adequate as a card to be used for running applications from it or storing system files (such as installing an Operating System on it). This is due to the fact that in order to attain such a high sequential read/write speeds (for it to be Class 10), the manufacter has to sacrifice random read/write speeds. Meaning that accessing thousands of small, scattered files, a Class 2 or 4 cope with it better than any class 10. So, be aware that even though the Class (and the price!) of a card may be higher, it may not be what you are looking for.

All in all, it works as expected, nothing extraordinary.
