Product Description

Product Description

In 1977 Sweet signed a new recording deal and were about to tour UK and Europe to support the release of "Level Headed" album in 1978, which was to be the last album the band would record as the original four piece that had achieved so many Top 20 Hits ("Love Is like Oxygen" was their last Top 10 Hit in 1978 which Andy Scott received a Ivor Novella Award nomination for co composing) This album is the actual recordings at Shepperton Studios, England where the band was rehearsing for the forthcoming tour to support the release of "Level Headed". The master tapes for this release have been supplied by Andy Scott from his archives. Musicians: Brian Connolly, Andy Scott, Mick Tucker and Steve Priest.

5.0 out of 5 stars ACTION! 8 Jun 2014
Format:Audio CD
This is a band that had now shaken the image of their earlier hits and had become a hard rock band in their own right.

Most of the tracks here are self-penned and prove that they had the skill and creativity to go it alone without the Chapman/Chinn writing team behind them.

Amazingly, despite being a rehearsal, the recording quality here is great and the delivery is pretty good too. A few of the harmonies are off the mark but it doesn't matter - a treat for Sweet fans everywhere.

As ever, nice packaging from Angel Air and good sleeve notes.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE LAST OF THE SWEETS BEST YEARS...... 9 Aug 2014
By Edward J. mccarthy Jr. - Published on
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
i was very happy when i read the press release for this cd a couple of months ago, now that i have it, this cd is just about everything i excpected from the stuff andy is now licensing off to angel air records, anyway as far as the sweet went this was sadly the last of there best years as i felt arfter 1978 a lot changed, this cd consists of demo tour rehearsals that where recorded while the band where in wales preparing to hit the road for the last classic sweet record level headed, anyway these demos are very well done and have been very well preserved, i think most old school sweet fans will really like this collection a lot as the magic had not died off yet, these demos sound very fresh, heavy, poppy and spot on as was expected by sweet fans in these days, the run of tracks are very good as im sure you can see in the press release and it was a pleasure to buy this cd, also the remastering is fantastic here and the booklet that was done for this release gives you all the information regarding the recording process of these tour rehearsals, this was done back in the days when bands like the sweet would rent out a big mansions and either write new songs, rehearse or record new albums with a mobil until, deep purple, rainbow, sabbath, zeppelin and many many others all did that in the 70s so why not sweet?? also the booklet comes with some great photos from these sessions and im sure it will not dissapoint any sweet fans, the sweet where unique back in the late 70s at this time as they seemed to be not only embraced by the typical glam rock fans of the time but i remember a lot of hard rock and metal fans where into sweet at this time as well as even punk rockers, they sure had a broad audience , hopefully we can hear more stuff like this in the future from earlier early to mid 70s sweet rehearsals................................
