After the excesses of the 70's with long improvised pieces most bands have rightly forgone the route of making the audience endure a 'new happening' piece of music. Thankfully the Crimson's improvisations have always been its life blood and so it continues today. Here the rhythms are slower and the mood darker than ever before, yet it sings out too. Trey Gunn establishes himself as a worthy successor to Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto has added a new depth to the drum section, although I still prefer Bruford for the songs. All successful major artists have to reinvent themselves to a degree. Yet again 'The king is dead; long live the King'

A level beyond 29 Mar 2007
By Smitty Werbenjaegermanjensen (real name) TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
I have 34 King Crimson official releases, including dgmlive.com downloads, and would rank this as the finest live cd they have released on disc to date. All of the material is playing with an intensity and accuracy that is momentarily missing from some of the other live outings in my possession.

The killer track here for me is The Deception of the Thrush, a track that took a while to sink in, ages in fact. This track starts off with a minimal percussion part and Trey Gunn using a talker(voice box effect fed through the Warr guitar), building with Frippian soundscapes and eventually some serious improvised solos.

The sound quality of this disc ought to be a bench mark for live recording and the testing of hifi components.

The only downside is the length of the disc. It is however an excellent record of where King Crimson were at at the start of the new milleneum.

A must buy!

Gotta try Elekrick! 15 Feb 2010
Format:Audio CD
This is a great show but, if this stuff floats your boat, you must, repeat must, acquire 'Elektrik'. The version of 'Level Five' is ultra dynamic and the band is so tight, you listen and laugh with joy!
