Have used the online version throughout the OCR Chemistry A-Level course and have yet to find a better resource. Especially useful for coursework involving experiments and analyising how it was carried out as the interactive simulations allow you to make as many mistakes as you want without setting anything on fire.
Ideal for individuals without the resources to carry out the experiments themselves or for institutions working on a low budget.

Each simulation follows step by step instructions such as beginning by analysing apparatus which has been incorrectly set up then correcting those
mistakes, followed by a "test your understanding" section, all in a simple, colourful layout. Easily makes chemistry fun!
Has sections on analytical chemistry, using lab calculations and basic lab skills in a visually entertaining way making it easy to understand and memorize, improving confidence in the subject.

The LabSkills program is a useful resource for A-Level Chemistry students that helps back up practical work done in labs and also can be used to introduce new skills and techniques.
General skills such weighing and measuring are included along with more complex practical techniques such as reflux, recrystallisation and thin layer chromatography. Students can use these sections to prepare for the practical coursework assessments.
The whole package is well indexed, cross referenced and user friendly. It could be used by teachers as well as students as a resource and is a worthwhile purchase to those wishing to improve their practical skills in Chemistry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful piece of software 2 Mar 2010
I am an A-Level student currently taking Chemistry and have used this software a number of times before carrying out a practical and have found it a very useful resource - especially if I have not done the practical beforehand.

After selecting a practical, the program gives lots of clear information about each step and the safety precautions for each, as well as giving advice on making experiments more valid and reliable - which would be a common question asked in an exam. Then it allows you to test your knowledge and asks some questions about the practical and I found that this helped me to remember the steps and the different calculations involved.

Within the entire program there is a lot of information which would all be very useful and so I would highly recommend this to any student studying Chemistry. A very worthwhile purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great help for A Level Chemistry! 9 Mar 2010
I am currently studying chemistry A level and have used labskills for a good year or so and have found it an extremely helpful resource. The software enables you to understand practicals and calculations with clear step by step guides. I found labskills perfect in revision for coursework assessments as the programme would simulate experiments as if you were actually doing them and the ability to change conditions, illustrating their effects made concepts a lot clearer. I also found labskills a great help in analytical chemistry, being able to interact with graphs and literally pull relevant data from them!
Overall a great A level resource!
