This isn't quite what I expected from the GUITARIST, John Frusciante. I've been following his music for a number of years now, bought his whole back catalogue, because I was so impressed with his voice, his guitar playing, and his musicianship in general. After listening to this, these thoughts have just grown completely. This album shows that Frusciante is more than just a guitarist. He is very talented on the synthesizer, and also in production, as he recorded the EP himself (with the help of an engineer, of course). The music is of top quality, the opening track full of mind-blowing melodies, and a brilliant voice to back this up. During the first listen, I was quite baffled by that drum mash-up that follows on in the song, but after a couple of listens, you begin to slightly understand its concept in the song. My other favourite track, the last one, is one that words cannot really explain. It breaks sonic boundaries, as for all we know, that song could have came from outer space! The scream towards the end makes me smile every time I listen to it. The use of RZA towards the end really compliments his musical diversity, and exploration. He's always searching, and forever finding. I really can't wait to hear his next album, PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone, because from what was said on his official website, he has mastered the art form that he says to have begun on Letur-Lefr, but also began to incorporate guitars again. Buy this album, listen with an open mind, and you will not be disappointed.
