Very disappointing that the CD-rom has no audio component to it.While the content is good just reading text on the screen is really no better than reading it out of a book. Also the description on the cover of the CD-rom is misleading because it states that a sound card is required which would ordinarily suggest that there would be an audio component. Having opened the packet there is obviously no way of returning the item.This applies to the Maths CD-rom of this series as well.Haven't tried the English one yet and very unlikely that we will after our experience with the Maths and Science CD-roms of this series.

My son and I found this KS3 Science CD to be very good way to revise for Science. It takes you through the basics. If your child tends to learn more visually, then this will provide a very good foundation. The other benefit is that it is a great way to make the time your child spends on a computer more constructive and productive. Mine spent more time using the CD than he did reading it in the book. The topics are divide up into small section. Each topic starts with a few questions so you can gain a small idea of what your starting knowledge is, but I feel the aim is more to start questioning what you need to know as you start learning the subject. There very basic tests at the end of each topic. It will give you structure if you are tutoring your child your self and enable you to use a book if you want to expand on the subject areas or related questions from other source. I would not suggest that this should be your only source for revision, but is a good starting point.

My son has recently used this to study for his S1 science test. Overall a fun and easy to follow learning resource. There is a quick test at the beginning of each module, followed by interactive learning materials and finshes with a test. Each module takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Seems to cover all of the Scottish curriculum level D and E content. Explanations are clear without too much reading. Plenty of visual information which helps with memory and understanding. I agree with another reviewer that auditory material would improve the learning experience but it is still an excellent learning tool at a very good price. Learning using a computer appeals so much more to children than the good old fashioned reading from a book. Works fine on Windows 7 operating system. Highly recommended learning aid.
