Product Description

Rowan Hill. Come first out of curiosity, explore as a guest, return as a friend.

When Ellie arrives at Rowan Hill all she wants is peace and quiet and a place to lick her wounds, but fate it would seem has other things in mind for her.

Firstly there’s Will, who has a reputation for being a humourless grumpy loner; things would be perfect if everyone would just leave him and his estate alone. Is he just plain grumpy, or is it the big fat secret he’s keeping that makes him act the way he does?

Then there’s Finn, who's drop dead gorgeous, but who ran away from his past. He’s now planning a return home to Rowan Hill, and although he knows Will’s secret, he’s not about to tell Ellie. Is it loyalty to his brother that keeps him quiet, or perhaps it's just that he has a few secrets of his own?

The perfect solution for all of them is staring Ellie in the face, trouble is she’s been accused of meddling before. Her vision for Rowan Hill could be just what everyone needs, so should she follow her heart or her head?

As Ellie puts her plans to save Rowan Hill into action, romance and friendships blossom, however the complications of the past are never far away, and a shocking revelation soon threatens their hopes for the future. Suddenly the beliefs they once held true become the biggest obstacle they have to overcome. Will Ellie find the courage to learn from the truth and finally let a little light into all their lives.

After all, life, like art, is all about perception, and sometimes it just depends on your point of view….

More About the Author

Emma Davies once applied for her dream job in the following manner;

'I am a bestselling novelist currently masquerading as a thirty something mother of three.' Well she's now a forty something mother of three, and is working on the rest.

By day she's a finance manager and looks at numbers a lot of the time, but by night she gets to use actual words and practices putting them together into sentences. Her twitter bio says she loves her family, her job, reading, writing, singing loudly in the car, and Pringles, so that must be true then.

Wave to her on twitter @Emdavies68

Letting in Light is her debut novel, and she is currently working on her second.

5.0 out of 5 stars I fell in love with this novel... 2 Oct 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Everything about the plot line made for utterly addictive reading. Firstly you’ve got Ellie’s story as she recovers from Robbie’s betrayal and tries to get her life back on track, then when she agrees to house sit and Will McKennan turns out to be her neighbour you get engrossed in their seemingly love/hate relationship…but then when she does get close to Will and it becomes clear he’s hiding so many secrets you’ll be tearing at the pages to find out what’s really going on, and then Finn turns up and things get a whole lot more mysterious. It felt like piecing together a very juicy jigsaw as you progress through the story.

There were aspects of Letting In Light that reminded me of Katie Fforde’s novels (and believe me that is a compliment of the highest order as I love Katie Fforde!) There’s that feel-good, exciting, romantic, ‘warm’ feel that Katie achieves and it’s definitely there in Letting In Light too. I love books that evoke a strong reaction in me to their characters and Emma does such a brilliant job of bringing Ellie, Will, Finn and the whole cast to life. Ellie is immensely likeable, Will is immensely gorgeous-sounding and I couldn’t help but fall a little bit in love with him, as I also did with Finn. They are characters you would want to know in real life, they’re funny, entertaining, yet sensitive, vulnerable and when all is said and done, only human, just like the rest of us. I wanted to take Will in my arms and give him a great big hug, but I also love how Ellie doesn’t take any rubbish from Will and she is basically the glue which, in the end, holds everything together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ready for the next installment 26 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end and found myself wanting to read on and find out what Will was hiding. Even when you do find out what the secret is, there is always a little bit more to keep you dangling and trying to piece the jigsaw together.
I liked Ellie’s character and I’m sure a lot of people could relate to her and the thoughts that go through her head, especially if you have ever been in the same situation.
I could really relate to Will and sympathise with him for what he has been through. I felt from the beginning of the book that there was always more to him than meets the eyes but it left you wanting to know how his life turns out in the end. Whether it was intentional or not, I think Emma Davies showed that you shouldn’t judge someone based on how they act because things may not always be as they seem.
I love how the friendships and relationships begin to form, and how you get to know background characters as much as the main ones. This novel is light with a few dark twists throughout but a thoroughly enjoyable read. I really hope we are going to be seeing a lot more Emma Davies books in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent plot and characters! 5 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Brilliant! I devoured "letting in light" in one day, it has that quality that really makes you not want to put it down. It is of the Katie Fforde genre and and written to as high a calibre. Well researched, a good plot and characters to believe in. For a first novel, it is excellent and I hope Ms Davies finds a publisher to believe in her soon, so that she may continue to write more novels for us all.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very pleasurable read. 27 Sep 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this debut novel by Emma Davies. I thought Ellie was a great main character and the secondary characters, Will and Finn especially, were also well-written. I thought the blossoming romance between Ellie and Will was sensitively described and although I was a bit surprised by the revelation from Will's past, I felt the author handled it well. I loved the way the development of Rowan Hill seemed to mirror the fresh start in the personal lives of all the characters and I liked the way that the story ended with the grand opening. All in all, a very pleasurable read and a great first novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic debut novel by this new author 19 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had to stop reading 'Letting in Light' a couple of days ago - because I didn't want it to end!!

I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the author drew me in and made me really want to get to know each character. Emma Davies has allowed us to get to know and love the main characters, leading us through their lives and the intricacies of their relationships at just the right pace. Ellie, Will and Finn became part of my circle of friends for a short while and I enjoyed their company immensely.

I got to know the supporting characters just well enough to know that I'd love to find out more about them in a follow up!

A real page-turner, it was difficult at times not to rush through a chapter in my quest to find out what was in store, hence me putting down the ipad and pacing myself so I could enjoy each new 'month' as it came, bringing a new aspect to characters and plot. Written with great descriptions, warmth and feeling, it was easy to imagine the settings, characters and emotions involved.

To sum up, a thoroughly enjoyable read which I have recommended to my female friends of all ages and my local bookclub. I feel certain we will hear more from Emma Davies and I will be at the front of the queue.
