These 'hardbacks' are of a very poor construction and not properly bound. The hard cover is merely glued to the edges of the backs of the pages. In use the books have to be held open and do not always close properly. This series is printed in USA; seek out a secondhand version printed by the St Andrew's press in the UK and immediately see the difference. A great pity since Barclay's works deserve a much better printing, since his interpretations can be such a great help in trying to understand a lot of the 'whys and wherefores' of the New Testament without just lapsing into diatribes about the formulaic protestant salvation theory.

One of a Great Series 22 Aug. 2006
By Sue Warrick - Published on
Format: Paperback
I own this whole set of 17 Barclay Daily Study Bibles and use them more than anything else in my rather extensive library. We also have a set in our church library and they are the books checked out more than any others. If you want a good, interesting, easy to read and understand resource on any of the books of the New Testament, I highly recommend any of this series.

A good layman's tool for good Bible teaching 29 Dec. 2007
By Robert Peter Evensen - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I have always liked William Barclay's "The Daily Bible Study Series". It has a good balance of information. It does not appear to me to be swayed to any one point of view. It is easy for the lay person to read and use without having to have a degree in theology. I use it along with other commentaries to balance what I am learning. As it says in the book, it is used world wide, has been translated into several languages and is used by lay persons as well as the Pastor. I do have several others in my collection, but this time I wanted a hard cover so it would stand the test of time and lots of use.

Good resource 21 Dec. 2008

I have always found William Barclay's Daily Bible Study series very helpful in my Bible study. The background information that is found in his work regarding customs, thought, and historical background relative to the times in which the New Testament was written. I understand that there are some theological differences but beyond that his works are very valuable.
Excellent Information 10 July 2013

This is the updated edition of the previous Bible Studies written by William Barclay who is Scottish. William Barclay was a Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism. Therefore, the content of this Bible Study is based on Protestant Theology. This is important to know for the Roman Catholics who are looking for a Concordance that has Roman Catholic theology. When this book was revises changes were made to make it easier to read. This book contains explanations about the passages Therefore, I think of it as a Concordance rather than a Bible Study.
Fantastic Commentary 11 Jan. 2014

The commentaries in the Daily Study Bible Series are great! They explain the historical context of the Scripture which is very important in understanding the true meaning behind the text. I am a youth pastor and I use these commentaries on a weekly basis. The language they are written in is easy to understand and read. Great set of commentaries for teaching, preaching, or just going deeper into the Bible.
