Book Description

* For a world of devoted readers, a much-awaited new volume of absorbing stories and inspirational wisdom from one of our best-loved writers, Maya Angelou, author of the classic autobiography I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS

Product Description

Dedicated to the daughter she never had but sees all around her, LETTER TO MY DAUGHTER reveals Maya Angelou's path to living well and living a life with meaning. Told in her own inimitable style, this book transcends genres and categories: it's part guidebook, part memoir, part poetry - and pure delight. Here in short spellbinding essays are glimpses of the tumultuous life that led Angelou to an exalted place in American letters and taught her lessons about compassion and fortitude. Whether she is recalling lost friends such as Coretta Scott King and Ossie Davis, extolling honesty, decrying vulgarity, or simply singing the praises of a meal of red rice, Maya Angelou writes from the heart to millions of women she considers her extended family. Like the rest of her remarkable work, LETTER TO MY DAUGHTER entertains and teaches. It is a book to cherish, savour, reread and share.

By Ford Ka TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
Maya Angelou has been an important American voice for many years and readers have gotten used to the fact that each of her books opens for them new perspectives. Angelou uses a variety of genres but her wisdom and wit fill each of the volumes she penned.
This book is no different - the essays combine to draw a very personal view of the world. This is a view as seen by a woman, a mother - it is warm, human, and private. Sometimes they are funny, sometimes sad - what they always share is honesty and wisdom.
When you can listen to a wise person, you should not miss the chance. There are very few people such as Maya Angelou - their voices should be listened to very attentively.

letter to my daughter 15 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover
As usual Maya Angelou doesn't disappoint an interesting, enlightling and moving read, her wisdom is boundless yet she is kind, honest and endearingly human sharing some of her experiences through her long colourful life to pass on to her daughter...for whoever she is or whereever she's from or whatever age she happens to be ... Maya is a wonderful mentor who I would love to meet, such a beautiful soul.
