Fantastic book, filled with everythng that you need to know about typography.

It is a very heavy book, so probably not ideal if you wanted to carry it around with you to school/college etc.

But worth every penny.

Really good typographic experience. Dynamic, with a little bit of history contextualization and a more deep analysis in the actual panorama of type and the form of the letter. And of course a kind of visual dictionary of the fonts and how they work in print and in different sizes.
Its a kind of post-introductory book for the ones who would like to get deeper in the subject.

I like paperbacks - cheap trade novels bought for a few quid in discount stores that are handy to carry and read - but, mostly, I like quality hardback books that have had some time spent on their writing and production. This is one of those. It's a beautifully produced item and the material inside doesn't let it down either. From the history of symbols and early glyphs to the modern day construction and vagaries of typeface and font design, this tome covers it. It's interesting factually and I felt like I was getting more than my moneys worth in both content and substance. Frankly, all books should have this much care and attention lavished on their production. Well done Taschen!

A tome of a book. If you get kicks out of letters, you will love this book. A great section on the history of type.

This book is an instant typography and typeface design classic! I think it's a MUST READ for design students or working creatives. A lot of basics, but also a lot of VERY in-depth discussions and history of typography.

Apples from Oz publications 11 Oct. 2011

I first saw Letter Fountain published by Taschen at the London Design Museum, whilst visiting the United Kingdom during 2011. The weight was the reason for not buying it there so I ordered a copy through Amazon on my return to Australia. It is an admirable achievement and I have found it to be a very informative publication. A book about type and typography attracts those of us with knowledge and interest in the subject so inevitably I have found a typo, the bane of all who produce publications.
