An honest book about womanhood, 11 Feb 2003
By A Customer
I originally read this novel in the German translation. It is an account of a woman who gets pregnant and decides to keep her child; the book is a collection of letters to the developing foetus, reflecting on the nature of life, love, men and women and reasons for wanting to be born - or not. The first part of the book is really quite sentimental, but never saccharine - the narrator experiences sadness, shame and fear, as well as positive feelings towards her child. Then she miscarries; and here the writing really takes off. In her grief and confusion, the narrator tries to find ways to justify the actions she has taken and the reader is treated to some powerful and impassioned conclusions about the nature of parenthood and its role in our society. Despite being written more than twenty-five years ago, in an era where feminist debate was only beginning to become mainstream, the issues addressed in this book are just as relevant today. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the debate about having children in the modern age.

Lettera a Un Bambino Mai Nato, 9 April 2006
This review is from: Letter to a Child Never Born (Hardcover)
I have read this book in the Italian language , M/ Fallaci is a great writer , I have been reading her books , mostly in Italian , but I read her last 2 books, both in English and Italian . I find Oriana Fallaci to be a very good author truthful, humane , and very brave. No hypocritical Political Correctness in her writings ,and never betrays principles or truth.

I read this book years ago and have never forgotten it. It's about a professional woman with an unexpected and difficult pregnancy. Her conversations with her unborn child are touching. I don't want to spoil it for you so I'll leave it at that. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and am disappointed to see that it's out of print.

Intense, 6 Jun 2010

This is a very intense book that by far exceeded my expectations. The author speaks candidly about intimate feelings, without fear of being judged. She just expresses all the emotions that she goes through. It's like a dialogue between her and her unborn child.
